Well non-Nintendo consoles don't even need games to sell so...

True, gamers buy consoles to stare at them, and not to play games..

Real gamers buys consoles to play games. Casuals buys fads without games, like the Wii.

Who could have thought? One generation after and the roles has been reversed.

Not looking good, eh?

Roles are still the same. Sony still has the more powerful console and stuck to traditional controls and strong third party. Nintendo yet again went with a non traditional controller and once again didnt try hard with third party.

It doesn't have anything to do with my point.

It looks good for Nintendo: Wii U is in third place, people buy the console just when it has games (rather than a fad without games) and has HD graphics, which means at least +2 points in reviews no matter how mediocre is the game.

Brilliant future is ahead.

wow.. who cares what people think about the Nintendo. You know what you're getting when you buy a Nintendo console. Can't you just be happy that you bought a system that you actually wanted?

I have mad love for Nintendo and some of their franchises, but you seriously can't expect the WiiU to be competitive with the PS4 and X1 this day in age, especially when it comes to hardware capabilities and 3rd party support and games. 1st party games are always good, but it's always from the same franchises you get with every Nintendo console, not that it's a bad thing, but nowadays, you are buying a Nintendo console for Nintendo games. Nintendo basically targets an audience different from Sony & MS. Also, with Nintendo, you'll get the occasional "mature" rating or "for the hardcore" gamer, but it's a family console first and foremost. has always been that way. Just like this gen, I bought a PS4 for myself and will be picking up a WiiU for my daughter. Doesn't mean I won't be playing the WiiU, but its' games, franchises, etc, is catered to a different gaming audience.
Real talk... i love Nintendo and I could care less if "hardcore" gamers look down upon/bad talk it. Nintendo games, 1st part anyways, are always good, but I think it's time that Nintendo doesn't try chasing the "hardcore" and just continue to push out fun games for the audience that it does have and accept the fact that 3rd party support will be slim pickings this gen.
It will truly be a sad day in the gaming world should Nintendo ever cease to exist. Anti-Nintendo or not, most gamers who were old enough to experience gaming from the early 80s/90s knows the kind of impact Nintendo had on the gaming world and in their own living rooms.

Man.. I hate it when your girl has to leave my place to come back to you..

Yeah it does. your point was that the roles have been revered, but I proved not much has changed.

Please, read again the comment. Nobody was talking about the power or traditional controls.

I know, thats the problem, you forgot, or intentionally left it out. Theres nothing wrong with painting the whole picture.

Why do you guys always think Nintendo is persecuted? Every company gets criticism like Nintendo.

Every company gets criticism. Not like Nintendo, though.

Nintendo is predicted to be about to collapse pretty much every second day, despite having $5 billion in cash in hand. For comparison, Sony is praised as being incredibly stable by many despite having $12 billion in debt and $8 billion in cash in hand (a $4 billion deficit).

Nintendo is criticised for not having games that appeal to "hardcore gamers"... and then when they announce a game like Bayonetta 2 or Devil's Third, they're criticised for keeping these games from the hardcore gamers by having it on their system as exclusives.

Indeed, Nintendo is the company that many in the gaming media (if not the gaming industry) love to hate. If it isn't lambasting Nintendo for following a successful formula, it's lambasting Nintendo for deviating from the formula.

When a multiplatform title is confirmed for PS4, XBO, and PC, and not Wii U, it's blamed on Nintendo - not on install base or system power, but on Nintendo itself. Yet when a game is confirmed for, say, PS4 and PC, nobody says anything comparable about Microsoft. When a game is announced as a PS4 exclusive, people who want it on other platforms complain about the developers. When it's announced as a Wii U exclusive, they complain about Nintendo. Nintendo is criticised for having free online. They're criticised for delaying games that aren't satisfying their QA. They're criticised for ignoring third parties, and for accommodating third parties. They're criticised for keeping Iwata in charge following a couple of years of relatively minor losses.

They're criticised for "forcing" Retro to make another Donkey Kong, and then they're criticised for not forcing Retro to make Metroid when it turns out that Retro chose for themselves... even after Donkey Kong becomes one of the best-recieved games on the system. They're criticised for spending so much time talking about sales in their press events, and then they're criticised for focusing their entire E3 on games. They're criticised for experiments like Wii Music, and for making safe titles that are guaranteed hits. They're criticised for not making a FPS even as every other company does it and few make games like Nintendo's. They're criticised for not making games that make proper use of the Wiimote, and then are criticised for making games that use the Wiimote. They're criticised for third parties' failures to advertise their games for Nintendo systems. They're criticised for not making games with deep stories, and then they're criticised when they make those games.

Other companies get criticised. Nintendo gets criticised for anything and everything, including criticisms that contradict each other. And then, when a Nintendo fan dares to call someone out for inconsistent criticism, they're called a fanboy and told to stop being so defensive. Funny, Sony fans, Microsoft fans, Activision fans, etc don't get such attitudes thrown at them when they complain, even about legitimate criticisms, let alone inconsistent and nonsensical ones.

1. Criticism is criticism, I'm not sure that specifying the kind of criticism is relevant. No one wants it eitherway.

2. Most people know that Sony is worse off financially. Their financial statements are often posted on this very site.

3.  Nintendo was criticized for that mostly in the Wii generation.  It was fair criticism in the sense that the customerbase they were pursuing was too fickle and unpredictable. As for bayonetta and Devil's third: neither of the two are big games or going to be big games. I don't know what the fuss is about. Some may just be unhappy they cant play them on their preferred system but that's jealousy not criticism.

4. Were yoiu around for ps3 launch? Xbox one pre-launch? Because I'm fairly sure that M$ and Sony have faced more criticism at certain points as well. Instead, most of the WIi threads in it's prime were about how mouch money it printed.

5. There are way more multiplats skipping nintendo's system than Xbox one and ps4. This criticism is fair. Install base and system power are nintendo's fault. I don'tknow how you can deny it. I can't think of any ps4 exclusive that's not a sony investment so I'm not quite sure what comparisons you're making. As for nintendo's seal of quality, it really did exist so it's wasn't unfair criticism at the time. When have nintendo ever gone out of their way to accomodate third parties compared to other manufacturers? You keep mentioning ps4 but neglect to mention that Sony went as far as to consult 3rd parties when developing the system. On the other hand, nintendo just made the best system to play the games they envisioned not to accomodate (not that this is necessarily bad). When a company is performing poorly the CEO gets blamed. This is not unique to nintendo.

6. I have been actively visiting gaming sites for at least 11 years now and I've not heard most of the criticism in your second to last paragraph. Perhaps one thread by a random guy isn't significant? WHat I have heard though is criticism of fps saturation and praise for nintendo for making colorful games instead of brown and grey space marine shooters. Goes to show huh? How come you also never addressed the fact that nintendo definitely has more supporters on this site for example? Were you hoping for gaming to be an echo chamber where everyone agrees that nintendo can do no wrong? If not, what criticism have they gotten that you agree with?

Want to see contradictng criticism on other companies? M$ was criticized for too much focus on kinecttowards the end of the 360s life and for moving the same sentiments to the xbox1. Now that Kinect has been deemphasized, I've read commentary suggesting that the system doesn't differentiate itself from the ps4 now.

Did you even read this part of the Iwata thread: If Iwata does not make the right decision and buy them out, he should be fired! (unless they are not financially able to which i highly doubt)

Oh and about how much Capcoms shares are, by my calculations, 51 percent of shares are around 750 million dollars. I also said unless they are financially unable, they should buy them.

I am not defending anyone. I agree that some Ninty fanboys say that every game ALONE will save the Wii U, but that is not the case. W101 Sonic LW, Pikmin 3. These arent games that would save any console. Super Mario 3d world did really good. MK8 did fantastic by it is a collection of games that save a console. When I mean save, I mean it provides a profit for Nintendo.

Fanboys should shut up abouy every game saving the Wii U. Nintendo haters should just stop with hating. IMHO, the only Three games announced AS OF NOW that can build on the Wii U's library that can sell consoles is LoZ MK8 and SSB4.

Yes, that's exactly how I remembered your Capcom thread. Nintendo has the money, so in your opinion it's a mistake for Nintendo to not buy out Capcom. Therefore your thread had a bad premise and was awful.

Not really likely that the Wii U will be a profitable endeavor for Nintendo. They are projecting low overall profits for this fiscal year and the next, and it's going to be the 3DS that is going to push them into the black (if they manage to post a profit). Wii U is a lossleader with no hope for software sales to make up for it towards the end of its lifecycle. The final loss once all is said and done won't be big, but it will be a loss nonetheless.

If they see it as a bad investment and that it is too riaky then they should not buy capcom.

Why wont the Wii U be profitable? The GC sold aproxiametly 20 million. The Wii U has sold 6.4 million in around a year and a half. If it stays selling like this then it will catch up to Gamecube in around 4 more years which is bad, but if that is enough to make it a profit, it will be a small success.

I predict the Wii U to sell around 35  or 40 million.

I agree that one game can't do it. They give bumps. Get enough great games and the bumps will turn into a conistently high average weekly rate.

Then theres other problems.....how does your brand fare in different parts of the world, how does it fare with the competition, is its pricing mass market firendly?

IMO, Wiiu's problems aren't games. Its purely PR and consumer mindset based.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.
