Forums - Gaming - New Consoles should've released in the year 20XX

everyone plays Fox to TAS perfection, so the sets are determined by port priority thus the RPS metagame has advanced significantly.

But I digress, point is some people say consoles should've waited till released until

A) more games

B) cheaper more powerful tech avaliable

C) less competition from predecessors

Why not just wait till the year 20XX then?

It would have been ridiculous if they took longer to release this gen.

All those damn robot masters and mad scientists might ruin the industry!

I disagree, I think that the Wii U at least should have released a year earlier (I think a lot of it's 3rd party woes wouldn't have occurred that way).

The PS4 is clearly selling perfectly well.

And the Xbox One should have launched maybe a 2-3 months earlier, with stronger Kinect support to avoid another embarrassing U-turn.

I know the Wii was dying a fast death but I think the Wii U would have benefited from launching last (like Nintendo almost always does, anyway). It still wouldn't have been number one but Nintendo could have "copied" off of Sony/M$'s paper and given the console a bit of a power/features boost. Also, it wouldn't have suffered from that "Wait and see" syndrome that the Dreamcast suffered from. People were like "Yeah, this looks okay...but the REAL next gen consoles come out next year!" People would possibly have been more willing to accept the Wii U if it launched later or at the same time as the competition. But then, I openly admit that I don't know shit.

Bad idea because the civilization was ruined by the nuclear war in 199x.

Thats not how things work and releasing in the year 2020 would not have solved anything.

  • In 2020 PC hardware will be able to run games at 8k@120fps, hardware cheap enough to put in a console would probably only manage 4k@60fps then. So that makes better hardware point moot. There will always be better hardware than what can go into a console as long as consoles are intended to hit a $3-$400 price point.
  • Console dev kits are only made available to devs 6-10 months before the release of the actual console. What that means is that even if you waited till 2030, a new console will still be a new console and still lack games in its first 12-18 months.
  • cross platform will always be a thing as long as the previous gen has a significantly higher install base than the new gen. You can't just ignore a potential combined market of 160M people (PS3/360) and invest completely in a budding market of a combined 13M people (PS4/XB1) especially considerring how expensive games are to make these days. Th PS4/XB1 will have to have a combined install base of say 20-25M people before publishers can safely abandon the previous gen.

should have released in 2011 or 2012
hated that last gen lasted so long
next to my PC they started to feel like antiques, as If i was turning on something from last century. Made it harder to play console games.

I for one agree. I'm a happy Wii U owner. Just make games, games and games.

Why it would be ridiculous people complaint that AAA games cost increase a lot each generation longer generation could be good to 3rd party

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
