Forums - Gaming - Most Overhyped Game of the Year so Far

Based on what's released so far, Titanfall, hands down. Watch Dogs comes in after that, because it's nothing special and most of its sales are based entirely on hype. Infamous only gets mentioned because people compared it to Titanfall all the time as the game that would protect PS4 from Titanfall. It wasn't really hyped as being a revolutionary game though, and delivered and performed as expected, and the PS4 didn't need saving from Titanfall anyway. Mario Kart 8 was quite hyped, but only about as much as every Mario Kart is, and this one quite honestly delivered on the vast majority of the hype, more so than any Mario Kart before it. If it had battle mode arenas and a better character selection, it wouldn't even deserve mention in this thread. Destiny isn't out yet, and it's been incredibly hyped, so I think it will be overhyped, but not by much. I'm not even all that excited for the game, but I get the impression that it will do what most expect of it and not disappoint.

It's Titanfall of course. People were talking like it was the next Call of Duty or something, but in the end it's just a moderate success.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Titanfall for sure
I think the better question would've been for second place. I think Destiny could disappoint a lot of people esp the players who play competitively.

Halo Master Chief Collection

Halo 1 CEA, 3 and 4 are all playable on the XB 360 (and probably $10 each now) and they aren't getting any significant upgrades on XB1. Halo 2 Anniversary is going to be a great game, but the Master Chief Collection as a whole is over-hyped.

-----

Also Titanfall

Its for people who play Halo Multiplayer. Halo 1 never had online and Halo 2 is shutdown. Halo 3's netcode is horrible. +60fps+1080p+dedicated servers+DLC

All this for only $60. THe hype is well deserved

From what I hear, none of the Halo's will run in native 1080p resolution. Halo 2 Anniversary I agree about, it's looking to be a great game, but Halo 1/3/4 are just ports of the 360 version and are old.

I mean it's a nice addition, but there are 4,000 achievements (...... :-/) and the hype makes it seem as if this is going to be bigger then Final Fantasy VII was when it released.

Share with us what you heard - which resolution are the games going to be rendered at instead of 1080p?

And which hype? I didn't see hundreds of threads here or on GAF and media is also not that overwhelming mass producing articles about it.

Upscaled 1080p, I assume 900p like Titanfall, XB1 isn't powerful enough to emulate 360 games and there isn't much time to remake those games.

What hype? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=186194&page=1 Please just read some XB threads, Halo MCC is mentioned more then any other XB game (even Call of Duty).

Mario Kart 8

Not enough tracks, worst battle mode of franchise and extremely unbalanced item distribution. Its a good game, but not near of the masterpiece that some people say.

4 Player Grand Prix mode.....this is the first Mario Kart since Mario Kart 64 that I've been able to enjoy since I never play Mario Kart alone. Playing 1 vs 1 vs 1 is kinda boring (Mario Kart Wii)

What emulation do you talk about? Again, post your sources where you heard that the games are 900p and are only upscaled to 1080p. This could be true for Halo2 as they are running two engines at a time but you explicitely said Halo 1, 3 and 4. A thread on GAF is the only thing right now because devs posted there: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=833898 I would like to see the source for your 900p-statement.

Where is the hype for a game that is to be released on a system with very few games and that is outnumbered by Sunset Overdrive? Hype measured by vgchartz where the Xbox community is not that big? Yeah, dat hype is getting disturbing, for sure...

That franchise is going to blow up this generation. Mark my words. Wait until it goes multiplat and gets a decent campaign. EA has already greenlit a second game with Respawn. The next one is going to sell 5-6 million. I'm talking immediate growth.

So are you going to share what you've heard? All you are posting are assumptions.

To your second point Halo MCC isn't mentioned more than SO in that thread you posted. Also, why wouldn't a exclusive game not get more mention that Call of Duty?

I think it was an exaggeration combined with "tales from my *ss". The FF7 analogy was way out of sense, completely.

I don;t save every article I read, and I'm not going to look it up. When the game releases, Digital Foundry will show us the resolution.

Look at that link I gave you and compare Halo MCC to other XB1 games. It's a remake and it's #2 on XB1? That's way too high, and I see too many people mention that game after Titanfall basically fell off peoples radar now.

----

Anyway, this is an opinion article, and in my opinion Halo MCC is way overhyped, more then any other game in 2014. At least Titanfall was something new.
