Maybe because you arent critisizing Nintendo for WWHD...honesly, this is the first game Sony is remastering. why do u care?

I don't care, was just answering the op's question of getting the point of TLOU remaster. Also, this isn't a Wind Waker HD thread, posting off topic gets people banned. for "derailing".

lol you cant talk about one without talking about the other. that's like blaming the Nazi for the entire death toll of WW2.

Before answering if Wind Waker HD is a cash grab we should ask some questions.

1: How long ago was the prior game released, this leads in to a new Generation being able to play a classic without having to find an old system and the old game?

Wind Waker released in 2002, Wind Waker HD released a decade later in 2012.

The Last Of Us released June 14, 2013 with it's remake scheduled for August 29th 2014. A year and 2 months later, lol.

2: What was the install base of the system the game was released on, which leads to how many people had the ability to play the prior game?

Game Cube had 33 million units sold. It made Nintendo a profit, but hardly a Wii type hit.

PS3 had 80 million, either 2nd or 3rd in sales last gen, outsold by the Wii, but still was in a lot of homes.

3: How hard would it be to be able to find the older games and systems to play them today?

Game Cube and Wind Waker, pretty much impossible.

PS3 and TLOU you can literally go to any Gamestop and find both right now.

Other considerations:

If the PS4 was just backwards compatible, it would be able to play it already.

Nintendo needed a start to figure out HD development. Wind Wakers was an obvious choice for several different reasons as the game to get your feet wet in developing HD.

1:  there is no official rule which suggests one has to wait any maximum numer of year before a game can be remastered. GTA5? no body is complaining about that. in that case, MS shouldnt incude halo 4 in their Halo Collection coming out yhis year. Also how many times has MS remastered or ported the halo franchinse? noone seems to be complaning about that.

2: TLOU sold 6 millions copies last gen despite being a new IP and being limited to one console. Sony feels the new PS4 owners would love to have this game (true) and decides to give thepeople what they want.

3: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_5?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames&field-keywords=gamecube&sprefix=gamec%2Cnull%2C196&rh=n%3A468642%2Ck%3Agamecube

A cash grab suggest creating a demand for a product where there is no demand. Sony saw the demand for TLOU from the new PS4 owners and/or those who didnt buy the DLCs and offered this to us at a reduced price and acted accordingly. the gaming industry is one of the most responsive commercial sector in the world. if gamers dont fancy a product, they dont buy it. however from the charts, TLOU: remastered seems to be doing quite well.

It's on topic if people come into a thread with an agenda and display their blatant hypocrisy the way you do just to get a rise out of people.

And calling people suckers also gets people banned.

I wasn't refering to anyone specific, it's a if the shoe fits thing.

Oh really? So if I say Wind Waker HD fans are morons, I can get away with it since it's general and I'm not pointing a finger at anyone specific?

You targetted TLoU fans there. And you're in this here thread just to get a rise out of people. Just like you always do. It's pretty obvious. You find reasons to downplay TLoURe while dismissing any comparison made to the remasters made by your fetishist console maker... Your intentions are clear as day.

Ummmmm, nope. A cash grab is packaging something cheaply for no other reason than making a profit (for an example see Tomb Raider). TLOU is that to a T.

The amount of hoove clickery in this thread is astounding...

Here is where you can get details of TLoU Remastered:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/06/09/the-last-of-us-remastered-coming-july-29th-to-ps4/

Lets go back to a previous "remastered" game. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. The game so many people were told would be superior to the PC version, but still falling flat on its face in comparison. In case you forgot the verdict on which was better, check out the link here:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-tomb-raider-definitive-edition-next-gen-face-off

So, now the question is, "What constitutes a remaster?". Lets use the definition assigned for movies. Someone provided a definition already, but lets just cut to the chase. When a new movie is released and a year goes by, if the movie is ever re-released with new features, video enhancements and audio corrections, it's never labeled as a remaster. As a matter of fact, it's labeled as a Director's Cut. Why? Because the movie is still fairly new and there's no much to do make it look better for today's technology.

For a video game, touching up the character models and "adding" DLC, features and lighting effects does not constitute a remaster. Think of it this way. If you remaster a game and the older version still has better quality, then what do you call the remaster?

"Remaster", in this sense, is being used as a marketing ploy kind of like how "HD" was used as a marketing ploy between 2006 and 2012 (and it still is today to be frank). The true definition of remaster, in the case of video games, does not apply to TLoU. I'm sorry to inform you, but it's just a port. What they've done with this game isn't anything new. Developers have always ported older games to newer consoles with updated graphics and features, and even then, they were labeled as ports.

Cool story, bro.

Now, is Wind Waker HD a remaster?

Yes, because:

1) The game is over a decade old.

2) The original game was in SD with a 4:3 format. The new game was upgraded to 1080p with a 16:9 format.

3 The character models were completely redone (and not enhanced like TLoU's models)

4) The textures were completely redone

5) The environments were completely redone

6) The music was completely redone by a live orchestra (and not synthesized music from the last game).

7) New console exclusive features were added to the game such as off-screen play, Gamepad inventory system, mii-verse integration, tilt controls for aiming and etc.

8) New items were added to the game

9) Gameplay element fixes were implemented into the game.

10) Pacing in the game had been corrected and made more streamlined.

11) Improved graphics with real-time environment lighting and other effects were added.

You'll have to provide links to support most of what you claimed about the game's graphics.
Especially so, since you're misinformed about a few of the points you tried to put forward. Like the game's music. It's the same as before: It still uses samples. They've only been remastered.

But here are some of the points about The Last of Us:

1: The game is still in high demand, despite being barely over one year old. :D

2: The game is going from 720p with barely any AA, to native 1080p with proper AA.

3: The framerate has been improved from 30fps to a rock solid 60fps, despite the doubling of the resolution and the original not being from 2 console generations ago.

4: In-game character models now match their pre-rendered cut-scenes counterparts.

5: Higher resolution textures.

6: A commentary track has been recorded with the game's director and the two main voice actors, which you can choose to listen as you play the game.

7: Music was left untouched as it was already pretty much flawless and recorded using proper real instruments. ^_-

8: New console exclusive features were added to the game like game session video recording, sharing said video recording with friends, streaming it entirely, or posting it to a video hosting website like youtube. It is yet unknown if any controller specific improvements have been made. So let's not jump to conclusions about them. You can also voice chat with a friend even if they're not playing The Last of Us. =)

9: Every DLCs released for the game so far have been included on this single disc. So much for being such a despicable cash grab, right?

10: Several other gameplay improvements were implemented.

11: Improved shadows and lighting.

Good points, what i dont understand from people denying that TLOU is a remaster is that they are insinuating that time is the only determining factor when considering what is a remaster and what is not. Bcause everything he used to define WWHD as a remaster can and has been said for the last of us: remastered. the only diffrence is that one came out 10 years ago and one came out last year...
