Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony says only "natural disaster" could keep TVs in red this year

I can't see 4K adoption happening in large enough numbers to meet Sony's forecasts, unless there is more native 4K content available.

Prices of 4k TVs are coming down significantly. Even Samsung which is the leader of flat screen TVs is now gonna focus on Ultra HD 4k TVs.

Same here, I like my muteki surround and big speakers would only take space on my wall, So I would preffer a 60" without any speaker (I know it don't exist) than 55" with big speakers. Make it hidden and I'm happy.

Good for Sony, but I still almost can believe how many years of troubes they got for having reacted late to the end of CRT era, it was an incredibly negative chain reaction. Yep, I know that some companies had even worse fates, but I'd have expected more long-sightedness and nimbler reactions from Sony. They made the same mistakes for portable audio too, they were leader with the Walkman, but they lost the battle with the new mp3 players, and what's worse, they lost the battle for the posh segment of that market to Apple, that entered it even later than Sony.

Couple points for TL:DR'ers - Residents of Tokyo have been urged to exercise the utmost caution.

"There are no nuclear power plants on Okinawa, but Kyushu, which is expected to experience violent winds and torrential rain on Thursday, is home to two atomic facilities. There is another on nearby Shikoku island.

Nuclear plant operators say they have well-rehearsed measures in place all year round, while the typhoon is expected to have largely blown itself out by the time it reaches the north-east of Japan, where the FukushimaDaiichi plant is located.

All of the country's nuclear reactors remain closed as a result of the triple meltdown in Fukushima just over three years ago."

That's good to hear.

Well Sony you had to go and open your mouth didn't you....

Japan Under Tsunami Advisory After 6.8-Magnitude Earthquake

By Brian Ries/1 hour ago

UPDATE Friday July 11 2014, 5:22 p.m. ET: Tsunamis of 0.2 meter were spotted at Ofunato as well as Ishinomaki-shi Ayukawa at 05:22 a.m. and 05:19 a.m. local time respectively, according to the Japanese Meteorological Agency. A smaller tsunami of 0.1 meter was spotted at Kuji-ko at 5:40 a.m. local time. Residents in the region are being advised not to go to beaches or river areas since water rises are possible during the next several hours.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A tsunami advisory is in effect for some coastal areas in Japan after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the northeast coast on Friday.

The advisory affects Japan's Iwate, Miyagi & Fukushima Prefectures.

The earthquake occurred just off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture at 4:22 local time, and was felt as far away as Tokyo.

The coastal region near Friday's quake is the same that was hit hard by the March 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster.
