Red Shell. It's the problem solver.

I'd have to say that the red shell is my least favorite item in the entire game. It's given out too often and it takes absolutely no skill to use properly.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

It takes no skill to use properly if your opponents have no skill at dealing with it. A hastily deployed Red Shell is a wasted Red Shell. A well-deployed one is the best way to snare that one elusive foe who remains just out of reach.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Agreed. I'm certainly not afraid of them like I use to be years ago. I deflect them and rid myself of them all the time. It's just when I'm about to win the race and have no item in the 1500cc or online is when I'm worried.

Exactly my point. I hate losing a race because I got a coin item and second place got a red shell. How can you say second place deserved to win that race? It certainly didn't take any skill on their part to use that last red shell they got.

Power Star!

Shout out to the feather from Mario Kart 1, though. It was a life saver and the key to many shortcuts.

The best item is the lightning bolt from the original MK followed by the red shell. The blue shell was a disgrace and rewarded people with no skill.

Has to be the star.

Triple Green Shells. Not the most effective item I can think of, but the satisfaction of hitting someone with it and the way it protects you from other people when they're spinning around you make them doubly handy

Especially when you get them with the first and then get a second hit just driving by. That is so sweet.

And then fire the third backwards for the hat-trick as you speed into the distance.

I dont think I have ever achieved this ultimate of all glorious hat tricks.

Blue Shell is a godsend to guys like me who, more often than not, are 2nd to 5th or so in a 10-12 player race, and need a bit of forward clearing.

Now, it's no good for the schmoe in 8th or 9th who cast it, that's for sure. Not unless the players in front of them were lined up like ninepins.

You just described why it's so bad lol. Back when we played the first game, skill was needed to win races. Sure, there were red shells, but unless you were at least in second place and timed it JUST right, they didn't work. Blue shells can be launched by a blind man in 7th place. I really don't understand why they ever included them within the franchise. Maybe if they would have been an optional thing, but not a standard item.
