You just described why it's so bad lol. Back when we played the first game, skill was needed to win races. Sure, there were red shells, but unless you were at least in second place and timed it JUST right, they didn't work. Blue shells can be launched by a blind man in 7th place. I really don't understand why they ever included them within the franchise. Maybe if they would have been an optional thing, but not a standard item.

The first place player has a natural advantage otherwise: he or she just has to watch their 6 and they're fine, compared to 2nd place or beyond which has two or more degrees of attack. A skilled player who can break out of the pack can really break away fast without something to drag them, and them specifically, back.

The missile is fun to use. I wish they had not put the coin in again, that was so pointless
