Gran Turismo 7 in the works, standard cars set to stay

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-06-27-gran-turismo-7-is-in-the-works-standard-cars-set-to-stay

Polyphony Digital is at work on Gran Turismo 7, and it's likely that the standard cars whose heritage stretches back to the PlayStation 2 era are to stay for the PlayStation 4 sequel.

Speaking to Eurogamer at this year's Goodwood Festival, where Yamauchi has unveiled a number of new GT Vision cars as well as taking to the hill in a Nissan GTR Nismo, Yamauchi said work was under way. But it won't be out as early as 2014, as he optimistically stated last year.

"We are working on the title," said Yamauchi. "I don't think it'll make this year!"

Yamauchi also said Polyphony will go straight into development on the full game rather than working on a taster, as has been the case with recent iterations. "I don't think it'll be a Prologue," he said, confirming that the full Gran Turismo 7 was next on Polyphony's plate.

And what can we expect of the PlayStation 4 game? Polyphony has recently started its own blog where it's addressing concerns of its community, including the quality of the sound within the series which Yamauchi admits isn't up to scratch. It's still in the plan to update the audio in Gran Turismo 6 - as Yamauchi revealed to Eurogamer last September - but the full overhaul won't come until Gran Turismo 7.

"I think the quality of the sounds in Gran Turismo 6 will be improved, but most of the work will be done in Gran Turismo 7," said Yamauchi.

Gran Turismo 6 has enjoyed a suite of updates recently, with a selection of Ayrton Senna's cars being followed up by the inclusion of Austria's Red Bull Ring and the Toyota TS030 - all for free. The Course Maker and B-Spec modes, which are still absent from the game, are coming in an imminent update.

And when Gran Turismo 7 does come around, the standard car models that persist from 2004's Gran Turismo 4 will most likely feature.

"I doubt that we'll be throwing away the standard cars," said Yamauchi. "Each car has its own fans. So I think we'll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available - but basically we're more focussed on increasing the number of premium cars."

Standard cars ? Really ? Polyphony off to a good start in this new gen..

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

I don't get this standard cars stuff just to desperately achieve a huge car list. As if something like 500 cars wouldn't be enough... It looks so misplaced if the rest of the game looks great and I still have to meet a GT fan in real life who asks for that because he really wants to drive his ugly standard car in a great looking game. It's probably only for marketing purposes because it sounds so great in a commercial.

you want a sim with american cars get forza you want japanese then get gt simple as that

it amazes me that gt is in its 7th iteration and it doesnt have the popular american cars of the 70s 80s and 90s and probably never will since there keeping gt4s car list thinking its some holy grail for car list. get rid of the 10 or so of the same nissans and hondas, 1000+ cars my ass

scrap gt6s car list start from scratch take every popular car and include at least one of each gen of it and be done for ex. camaro game should have a 69, 71, 81, 89, 97, 02, 10 and the new model 2014

I see some of the standard cars the same way I see game and watch in smash bros, they are legacy parts of the GT brand, no one complains that G+W has 2 frames of animation per movement and nor should people complain that they've basically made a game engine where they can copy and paste to drop in a few hundred car models from previous games, some of which as he stated in the OP's quotes are peoples personal favourites from over the years. I'd much rather have more content and the legacy stuff thrown in too, if it's available more is always better.

GT7 has been confirmed like 4 times since even before GT6 lol

I don't see anything wrong with the standard cars as long as they continue to upgrade them with each entry (as they did with GT6).

I'm pretty interested to see how quickly we will get GT7, and what sort of quality it will provide. With GT6 they already started implementing assets/tech that are somewhat wasted on the PS3 (with the obvious intention of them being easy transferable and better appreciated on the PS4), so in a round about way GT7 started development with GT6. Should make this gen's jump a lot smoother than the last :p
