Forums - Sony - Gran Turismo 7 in the works, standard cars from GT4 set to stay, not this year

How will they manage to properly fit in PS2 textured cars to a PS4 video game? Being an optional feature doesn't make it any less confusing to me.. the "prototype" feel will subconsciously harm our reception to the game.

Depending on how much resources those standard cars take, it may be better to get rid of them altogether.

The models have been drastically improved from the original PS2 textures.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

GT6 is the worst selling Gran Turismo game of all time, I don´t think GT7 will do any better, sadly.

It probably will being the only GT in the platform.

GT6's low sales proved people don't care about the number of cars. Reduce the amount of cars, use that extra time to polish up the premium cars, improve the sound and add some new innovations and features. Most importantly release the game by 2015.

I'd rather have less cars and release earlier than having to wait a year or two because they need to have 1500 cars in the game. GT5 and GT6 both shared this problem.

At this point I am more excited for Driveclub and Forza Horizon 2 than GT7.

GT8 will release to PS4, they always stick to GT's per gen.

I'm talking about when the game releases

The game won't be delayed because of the standard cars, and to say by two years you are pushing a little to far... and If GT6 haven't sold because there is too much standard cars and the sound isn't good what is the excuse for FM1 to 5 and passing to FH?

And being more excited by Driveclub and FH than a GT you didn't even saw maybe shows you aren't the target of the game or that you are just bashing the game needlesly?

GT6 didn't sell as well because it was released in the midst of PS4's launch and any improvements it had over GT5 weren't significant enough. Nowhere do the sales say that people don't care about the number of cars becaue otherwise we would've seen similar results with GT5. Also, to say that you're more excited for Driveclub and FH2 than GT7 when you haven't even seen a single sclip of GT7 is outright silly. Yeah, we know that GT needs some work such as the engine sounds, but PD has acknowledged the flaws and are working on remedying those problems.

All the Forza's have sold well and considering there is a new Forza every year it understandable that people won't buy every Forza. Also, FH was a game that catered to a different audience. In addition, the sim racing genre isn't as popular in the US.

Considering Gran Turismo was once as big as Halo and Mario and Forza was a new IP that was unknown its done pretty well. Hell if you combine all the sales of the Forza titles on 360  and F5 its number will be very close to  GT5 + GT6 or even surpass it. It was known as the GT killer like Killzone was the Halo killer and it lived up to its billing.

GT6 proved they need to adapt and try to lure in more than just the hardcore sim racers. Its a dying genre and many people don't play as many sim racers as they used too. Continuing to stick to a business model based on the PS2 generation isn't going to work in 2014.

I'm basing because like the rest of the Japanese gaming industry Polyphony could head down the same road if it doesn't innovate and try to cater to a larger audience.

Just 5 years ago you would get mocked for even talking about Forza in the same sentence as Gran Turismo and the game and sales proved it. Now its a lot closer and if they don't adapt they will get past by.

Thats my point , it took them 3 years to make GT6 and the improvements weren't significant. So I guess the three years they spent, a lot of time was spent on upgrading the standard cars. Thats my point.  Had they removed the standard cars from GT6, fixed the other problems (sound) and released earlier (2013) the game not only would've sold more it also would have gotten more praise and have a higher metacritic rating than it currently has (81).

Now we are getting GT7 on next gen which again will take them a while to learn a new console like GT5. In addition, most of their time is gonna be spent upgrading the PS2 level cars to a acceptable level with slight improvements like GT6. And this will take them atleast 3years.

Still does not prove your original claim that "people don't care about the number of cars". GT7 may get a lot of flak from consumers for drastically reducing the number of cars. Also, the PS4 is a much easier platform to develop for, so PD will have a much less steep learning curve and thus, spend less time improving the quality of the standard cars. That said, I don't support this practice. However, if PD does, for instance, increase the number of premium cars (which was already quite large) while they increase the quality of the standards, then that will be more acceptable.

GT6 had more cars than GT5 and a much bigger install base yet it hasn't sold as well.  As, for the PS4 launch canniblizng the sales of Gran Turismo, I disagree.  There was no next gen racer for the PS4 that people bought instead of GT6. If people wanted GT6 they would've bought it.
