I really don't get your point. If FTP devs would put their games on PSNow for free, all their proceeds would go directly to Sony for server fees. Why would any company do this?

People with just a Blu-ray player or a TV will not play these games. Why? Because if they had any interest in gaming they'd already have some kind of device that plays games. People with gaming devices will be able to play games locally on their devices with the added bonus of no input lag.

i think it would be cheaper for them to develop for new platforms than to pay a monthly fee to Sony so they can bring a subpar experience to more people.

What he's saying is that Sony would lose money by offering free to play games for free but they would also attract people who would eventually start renting games. When I first installed steam it was to play some free to play games that a friend recommended. Ever since I've bought several games. You need to attract customers somehow.

Is that gonna happen? Perhaps not, but maybe it wouldn't be a terrible idea. It's similar to certain shops offering ps4's for less than $400. Sure they're taking a hit, but they are also promoting their stores.

Makes sense?

Makes a bit sense. Still, the entry level for playing is not zero. People without a gaming device would still need to buy a controller. That step is already too big for most people. I really doubt that PSNow will further Sony's reach beyond Playstation.

True. It's not zero, but for someone who can't afford a proper PC or a ps4, the PSTV bundle (that includes a controller) is a cheap alternative. But, yeah I definitely see your point.

No, you misunderstood.

I'm not talking about the users bandwidth required to use the service. I'm talking about bandwidth used on Sony's side to offer streaming video to users.

I'm reluctant to believe Sony is going to allow people to stream games for free.

Ah, I see what you mean. Perhaps if they have a subscription based option, FTP games could be added?

Perhaps and who wants to subscribe to a fee based service to play FTP games?

Too little is known about PS Now and the pricing scheme we've seen thus far have turned people off to the service. Maybe people will get excited about the service when Sony starts revealing good news.

I think it is something to judge on when we know more, but so far I don't like it.

You bring up a good point. From a player perspective, PSNow would get rid of the last remaining barrier for free to play games (having to download them). If something strikes your fancy BOOM you are instantly playing.

PSNow could be a trojan horse for a few things. One of which I think is Sony's exit from the console business, but thats a different discussion.
