Actually. I think more you don't understand what PlayStation Now is (at least in its current form).. and that is why people are confused by your question.
PS Now is a pay service. Nothing is FREE on it. You can't purchase "add-ons" on PSNow with the game rentals. That is how FTP games make their money. So if a FTP was to be added.. it would NOT be FREE. There would be a fee right away. So it would no longer be a "Free to Play" game...
This is all at least based on what PSNow is today and the rental program they are testing.. 1 Day/7 Day/30 Day etc...

Predictions on 12/01/15 - Generation 8 Totals:
PS4: 85-95m
X1: 55-65m
WiiU: 20-30m

Well.. Heres a question... Don't you think that there is some sort of fee involved to keep the servers running that stream the games? Cause thats why as of right now, they are doing a rental service per game cause someone has to pay for the servers and the issue with FTP games is that, well, they are free loll. And since there is no entry level fee, if people don't buy enough of the ingame micro-transactions to level the server fee, then all the developers of the FTP games are doing is just paying Sony a fee to stream the game... Just cause there is a potencial market doesn't really mean the market is there
The other issue is that games like Planetside 2 is an online game so I am sure that there will be some delay when streaming vs playing off of the console/pc which will give the players a disadvantage unless they are playing on a server only ment for PSnow and no other users
Heck, most of the sites say that its virtually unplayable on wifi as of right now so even if they get that worked out, playing on online games on laptops and mobile devices via streaming would probably have a considerable amount of lag
PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850
I really don't get your point. If FTP devs would put their games on PSNow for free, all their proceeds would go directly to Sony for server fees. Why would any company do this?
People with just a Blu-ray player or a TV will not play these games. Why? Because if they had any interest in gaming they'd already have some kind of device that plays games. People with gaming devices will be able to play games locally on their devices with the added bonus of no input lag.
i think it would be cheaper for them to develop for new platforms than to pay a monthly fee to Sony so they can bring a subpar experience to more people.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant "heavily supported with in-game advertisements". |
The moment some crap like this shows up on my screen is the moment I give up video games forever!
That's because FTP is the worst gaming model ever made. It's pretty much a scam because there's nothing free about it. It should be called "free to try" because to finish playing, you always have to pay eventually. It doesn't help that the games often just blatant cash grabs.
PSNow sucks as well from what I've read about the beta especially the pricing. You're better off getting a ps3 and owning your games instead of using the service. Ps3 is only going to get cheaper.

What he's saying is that Sony would lose money by offering free to play games for free but they would also attract people who would eventually start renting games. When I first installed steam it was to play some free to play games that a friend recommended. Ever since I've bought several games. You need to attract customers somehow.
Is that gonna happen? Perhaps not, but maybe it wouldn't be a terrible idea. It's similar to certain shops offering ps4's for less than $400. Sure they're taking a hit, but they are also promoting their stores.
Makes sense?

Then why are Sony putting PSNow on Bravia TVs?
Yep, it does seem to me that most people still think PSNow is just a workaround for backward compatibility. PSNow is designed to spread the PS brand beyond the normal restraints of 'gaming' hardware.
FTP games exist ... no? Then clearly the model works from a financial standpoint and at the end of the day, that's all that matters to people who could potentially support the service. As another poster pointed out, perhaps there IS a problem because of all these FTP games being online only, and perhaps the extra lag these could potentially introduce would make it almost impossible to make them work on PSNow properly, but if they can get them working well the model would work in exactly the same way it works now.
We are going to be getting RPG so clearly there is a way for PSNow to store your progress and everything else required to make your own playthrough unique from others, so it follows they will also be able to store/monitor what content you have bought for a FTP game.
And what better way to get people interested in PSNow than to offer them a way of testing it without paying any money up front?

If you have a pretty decent laptop, it's not a demanding game but most laptops have crappy Intel GPUs that won't cut it for this game.

Not all of them. I've been playing Destiny of Spirits for psvita since March, clocked in more than 400 hours of gameplay and have yet to pay a penny. Also, I beat the game two days ago (yes, it takes that long to beat if you don't pay extra) and there were points that I was in the top100. Not sure how many people spend money on free top play games (obviously a lot), but I have no issues with the gaming model. As long as it's not multplayer and someone beats you because they paid for better armour or something, I'm fine with it. I'm sure there are many similar games that are FTP. The term is fine as it is in my opinion.
