Let's be real. Shin Megami Tensei doesn't do "well" anyway.

It does well. If that wasn't the case then it wouldn't be such a prolific series. They aren't AAA games so they don't need big sales.

Also it's the third most important JRPG franchise in Japan being beaten only by Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.

Pokemon isnt important confirmed :0  Also how about FE?

Don't blame me, blame the wikipedia. That's what it says. "Megami Tensei games have met commercial and critical success and the series is usually known as the third main RPG series in Japan, after Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.".

Europe does not like good games. I can tell that because I live in Europe. The tastes in games here are not diverse at all. I only see COD, other shooters, FIFA and hyped up third party crap like Watch Dogs.

Tell me about it, every time I go to my main gaming store I see in the best selling part always CODs and Fifas. Once I saw a Chess game as first, but I discovered that someone put it in there as a joke.

BS. Every time I go to the local gaming stores/electronic store I always see a huge selection of games: shooters, sports games, RPGs, party games, RTS, TBS, MMOs, brawlers and every other genre you can imagine. And this is Romania we are talking about....

@ HintHRO: third party crap? Seriosuly, is that the only baseless trolling you are capable off? I mean really? Did you even play the game, before makiing that judgment? Yes it was hyped to the heavens and back, but calling it crap is way out of line, and its actually a solid game with massive future potential behind it.

And "good games" are a subjective matter: CoD, Fifa and every other shooter that sels well is for one reason, the target audience likes them. That means that they have to have some redeeming quality.

I wasn't saying there is not variety, of course there are a lot of games, both AAA titles and little games. What I said is that the section that shows the best-selling games on the store always has a similar collection: shooter, football, and others similar. Once in a while you'll see there the recent-released games, but if there is nothing new, expect the same games there.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Extremly difficult to localize the games > late to no release at all... I blame the french, spanish, italians and the germans. Why can't they be happy with just English? I imported a lot of jrpgs from the US since the snes days..

Hahaha, you think these small games get translated into every language? Yeah, no. That doesn't happen. The only company (in the video game space) I know of that refuses to release stuff in Germany unless it is translated into German is Nintendo, hence why we never got Pokémon Conquest (though the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and I think the Scandianavian countries did), since it wasn't translated in any other language than English.

Most low profile games aren't translated aside from packaging and MAYBE the instruction manual. To be fair, in order for the item to be sold in Germany it must have German packaging, but I wouldn't say that that is hard localization work.

More than half of my PSP/Vita library is English only, and most games were bought in Germany. The only option to play Final Fantasy 1 through 6 in German is the Nintendo published versions on GBA and DS (see above for reasoning), every other version (if it was released in Europe) is in English only. And we are talking about Final Fantasy here (Though everything from 7 up was translated). Not one Shin Megami Tensei game was ever released in any of these languages. I think the only Atlus game ever released in German was the Nintendo published (notice a pattern?) Etrian Odyssey for DS.

So we ARE happy with just English. In fact, for most Japanese games, we don't even have an option.

P.D. Also, if you can recommend me a good (and cheap) JRPG for my 3DS I would appreciate it.

Bravely Default - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wejrw43yKG4

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbcNRsgp77Q

Those are two great RPGs.  There's also Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars, Tales of the Abyss and multiple Etrain Odyssey/Shin Megami Tensi titles, though I haven't played them(except SMT4 which is also great).

Thanks for the recomendations! I'm thinking of picking up Conception II (do I need to know the history of the first one?) and SMT devil survivor or Soul hackers. I can't find them anywhere but what am i going to do. I already have Bravely Default, but I'm stuck betweeen two bosses i can't defeat. Need to grind a lot.

...that's what happens everywhere, not just europe.

as far as the "other" games go I think we have better and more diverse taste, actually.
