Prove it. The fact that it was on gamecube and wii and the wii was one of the most hyped consoles of all time was why it sold so much.

It's all in the numbers ... Why else would OoT and TP sell so well ?

OoT was the first 3d zelda and Twilight Princess was on 2 console, the second of which being one of the most hyped consoles of all time like I said.

And: http://www.wiiuonly.com/2013/05/eiji-aonuma-on-fate-of-wind-waker-2.html

As some of you know, at E3 2004, we unveiled the game that would become Twilight Princess, the realistic Zelda game, and we announced that it was developed by the team that had been developing Wind Waker 2. Actually, there was a reason that that decision was made at the time. At one point, I had heard that even Wind Waker, which had reached the million mark in sales, had become sluggish in North America, where the market was much healthier than in Japan. I asked NOA why this was. What I was told was that the toon-shading technique was, in fact, giving the impression that this Zelda was for a younger audience and that, for this reason, it alienated the upper teen audience that had represented the typical Zelda player. Having heard that, I began to worry about whether Wind Waker 2, which used a similar presentation, was something that would actually sell.

: Hmm… I think the project that reflects our reaction to fan opinion is probably Twilight Princess. The incentive for us to create that different version of the Zelda universe was certainly as a result of The Wind Waker criticism that we received. Fans were saying that it wasn’t what they were looking for, it wasn’t what they were hoping for, so that’s why we went with this different graphic presentation. So I think that’s probably the one, the biggest change that we made.

I still remember eight years ago at E3 when we ran that first video of Twilight Princess. It was received very well; there was a standing ovation! So I still remember that moment very well.

Yea I understand all that. A reaction at E3 doesn't=sales. For all that supposed backlash against wind waker it still ended up selling almost 5 million.

The WII was hyped ? That's news to me seeing as how it was only yesterday that people started appreciating the system after the WII U came out ... A week ago I saw a lot of gamers rebuking the platform to no end.

Being the first to 3D doesn't matter seeing as how their are tons of titles that didn't end up transitioning too well.

You must be blind to not realise that the reaction people had there is intrincically tied to the hype that followed for that game.

And sustained hype correlates directly to better sales.

Final Fantasy VII is another title with the first to 3d phenomenon. You're denying that the Wii was hyped at launch and for quite awhile afterwards?Ok then. I guess this just shows your age.

Don't get me wrong but almost every system was hyped including the vita. LOL It's just that the WII got more hate and backlash than hype.

Like I said before, hype does not translate to sales. Final Fantasy was always a good title up until now and adding 3D to it wasn't exactly hard seeing as how combat was still turn based but platformers like Mario 64 didn't exactly do hot compared to the previous 2D Mario's in sales.

Ad hominem ? The only people who use it are the ones out of arguments ...

Take away GCs TP sales and it still outsells others by several million.  Your arguments fail in the face of reality.

Wish there was a 1+ button ...

In the case of TP (and Final Fantasy VII), the hype was solidly sustained from the reveal to the reviews and even after. The graphics style of the game had a lot to do with that hype (as usual, people buy the coating of something before anything else). And it this case, the hype did correlate to better sales, ultimately. The game had it all, gameplay-wise, but what had everyone sold was that the game had the look everyone wanted, and it's that look that systained the hype (be it for the media, or anyone else).

I wouldn't exactly say hype is all that's needed seeing as how tons of people keep buying COD despite the amount of flak it recieves but OoT and FF VII were also good games too and I think that's what helped them ultimately in the end.

FF VII got incredibly ridiculous hype back then. A lot of people were buying a FF game for the first time based on the hype that the media and fans of the series shared before and after the release. It helped tremendously that the game was gorgeous [for its time] and unlike anything that had come before it, what with all the fancy CGI sequences that were a first on that scale on console at the time.
