Forums - Nintendo - Why I don't like Nintendo

I somehow doubt you've even played any of these games...

i think out of all of the things you said, i agree 10000% in the fact that they SHOULD focus more on new IPS instead of pouring sequels of the same games generation after generation, i understand that people like those games but your not gonna grab people like me into the console by doing mostly the same thing every gen.

i know they are good games but they just don't appeal to me, that's why i wish they made more new stuff because then maybe some of those new games (hopefully all of them), would appeal to me.

That exactly why Nintendo keep losing consumers, a lot of people think this way and just don't buy Nintendo stuff anymore. How can Nintendo doesn't notice it?

I'll tell you why. Money talks. As long as Zelda, and Mario keep selling they'll keep making more of it. Making new IPs will be very rare if this keeps up.

This is why I think they specifically build their system for these games with hardly any room for something new.

What I gather is that you don't like Nintendo because you don't like Nintendo games, and Nintendo continues to make Nintendo games instead of games you like. But some people DO like Nintendo games, so it's selfish of you to ask them to retire classic beloved franchises like the Legend of Zilda

Do note that just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's 'mediocre'. Also, having many iterations also != mediocre, which seems to be your main point.

It's alright to not like Nintendo. It's alright to not like them because they overuse franchises you already don't enjoy. Making a thread about it and trying to justify it as being deeper than that is a bit silly and like putting a target on your chest, though.

I'm just happy you got Zilda's name right over the course of this thread :)

Current Consoles: Gaming PC, Wii U, 3DS

Of course, my complaint is that there is too many Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and not enough fresh new things like X. X as a matter of my opinion, looks so much better than Mario games.

Its fine if you don't like my criticism, but let me make myself clear. The difference between games like Final Fantasy, against Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon is clear as day for me. The storyline, action, graphics, progression, and characters is all better. The story is what makes Final Fantasy. The best thing is that the characters is always different. (unless its a sequel like the FF13 series). Mario in the other hand, all they do is throw in the same characters and a new plot, and upgrade graphics for the new nintendo console. I can almost guarantee you a new Mario is in the works. spoiler: Princess is going to get kidnapped again.

The thing that separates it is teh gameplay tho. Maybe if you actually play these games then we will talk. Let's take Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door for example(My favorite JRPG of all time mind you.) The game is amazing, the gameplay, art style, music and story. The only thing it has in relation to Mario is that it has Mario, Luigi, and Peach in it. It has an original cast of characters with their own little backstories, sidequests and personallities,

And when you include those, then you're flat out wrong.  Paper Mario is much different than 2D Mario Platformers (story is actually kind of important in Paper Mario).  3D Mario Platformers are also different than 2D Mario Platformers in a bunch of ways.  What usually sells, though, are what people are accustomed to.  There are a lot of different Mario games that cover many diffeent genres, and mostly the reason why Mario is put into those titles is to assure better sales.  The fact of the matter is that without their mascot in those titles, they wouldn't sell as much because they wouldn't get as much attention.

Paper Mario, is still Mario. Same plot, same progression. Its mediocre.

I find this part particularly interesting.

North America does not equal the world. This is my point. It is selling less globally

You do realize that the list is in order from global sales, right?  Your point is still wrong.

Great post.

The "rehash" aspect of attacking Nintendo amuses me. Name me 5 successful games in the past 5 years that weren't rehashes. No, by being a new IP you don't get a pass - Watch Dogs is clearly just a GTA clone for example. Sticking new faces on an old idea is just pretending that you're not rehashing.

Gaming - now past its infancy - is now nearly all about rehashes. I'm learning to live with that because it's inevitable. You like whatever games you like, and I'll keep liking Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and whatever else you criticised in your first post. If Nintendo or anyone else come up with a groundbreaking new idea then great, but I'm not holding my breath. It's so rare these days.

Oh, and Xenoblade Chronicles X is just a rehash of Xenoblade: Chronicles. I'm sure it'll be great just like the original, but let's not let that game off just because it isn't developed by Nintendo.

Isn't Monolith Soft a First Party studio?
