Forums - Sales Discussion - USA SW / WW Hardware - week ending 14th June

Well this was a shockingly poor week all around. Even with the new consoles this could be one of the lowest weeks I can remember.

PS4 and XOne both below 100k. With this week, I didn't expect that.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Good news for Sony fans in the Netherlands, PS4's are available @ Toys XL

To compare with the earlier generation. Wii is slightly ahead of PS4 while that console is crushing both X360 and PS3. Nintendo DS vs 3DS is also something! That difference

I don't believe those low X1 numbers in America thisweek (as I think it was to high last week). Also WiiU numbers seem too high this and in the last week, so let's not get ahead of ourselves on the doom and saved parties.

ouch. ps4 below 100k!

i remember ps3 last year never went below 100k in a week.

A better comparison would be the week ending June 16, 2007. The PS3 sold only 60k globally that week according to VGC. Here's a comparison of monthly sales of the PS4, PS3, 360, and XBO in the U.S. according to NPD:

The PS4 sold about 1,320,000 units for the first five months of the year, while the 360 sold 1,119,000 for the first five months of 2006. Meanwhile, the XBO pulled 903,000 for the first five months of the year; 63% of these were in February and March when the system got a boost from tax season and then Titanfall. It's also worth pointing out that the 360 was the only seventh-gen system on the market for a whole year, while the PS4 is having sales siphoned off by the XBO (and Wii U to a lesser extent). Furthermore, the 360 increasing from March to April is an anomaly. Sales usually drop from March to April, and the second quarter of the year as a whole is typically the weakest of the first three barring something that boosts sales like a major title or a price cut.

Now here's Europe (I had to extend through to the first September to get seven months since the PS3 didn't debut until March 2008 in Europe):

The PS4 is selling quite well in Europe. Maybe not quite Wii levels (the Wii pulled about 1,254,000 in the first five months of 2007 while the PS4 pulled about 1,072,000 in the same period this year), but still very well, significantly above PS3 levels. The XBO meanwhile has been doing considerably worse than the 360. If you remove the UK from the equation, the situation is even worse. In France and Germany, the XBO has been pulling Wii U-level numbers for much of the year, which does not bode well for its performance in these "Tier 2" European countries.

Thank you for your good analysis like always

So the Wii U fell from 91k to 68k this week. I wonder how much it will drop off next week. X1 should most likely be ahead of it then as a new baseline will be established at the $399.99 rate.

So no mention of the PS4's huge drop and steady decline since Watch Dogs. Which one is bigger?

The PS4 has dropped from 164k to 99k (65k drop or -39.6%). The WiiU has dropped from 133k to 68k (65k drop or -48.9%).

Their drop has been identical sales wise, but the PS4 has overall lost a smaller % of its sales.

Both could (and probably will) still be adjusted in a few weeks, so things could look better/worse for either.

I just can't believe those xbox one sales. It would be a catastrphe for MS if in its first week of sales the kinectless sku sold only 64k.
Also, the PS4 in doing just fine. A little drop during the summer is to be expected.
WiiU surprised me as well. The MK8 effect is still active it seems.
BTW these numers are just too strange, there will probably be a huge adjustment in the next weeks.

Sorry, but I don't believe these numbers at all. Last month the PS4 was overtracked by 50k in America and this week it sold 100k (according to VGC). So how the hell can it have been 'reduced' to 8.1m? At the worse is should be STILL 8.2m.

vgcz adjusted ps4's numbers in europe down by almost 10k per week every week going back through janurary.  that's about a 200k negative adjustment to ps4.

Finally PS4 back to second place, now to get Wii U on top!
