Forums - Gaming Discussion - I'm thinking about getting a PS4. I have questions.

So after seeing Sony's E3 conference, while I stand be my assessment that they had the worst conference of the big 3 and that I'm disappointed in their performance, they did something to catch my intrest. The Destiny bundle. Actually, let's be more specific. It's not the Destiny bundle, it's the white PS4 you get with it. It's beautiful and I want it. I really don't want Destiny, and I'll probably end up returning it, but I really like that white PS4.

It's a shallow reason to want a new system, so I'll also explain that the major reason I'm considering the PS4 is obviously to play 3rd party games. I don't really care for Playstation IPs except for God of War and ones they don't really care about making anymore like Jak & Dakster, Ratchet & Clank, and Sly Cooper. I was planning on waiting until next year to decide if I would invest in a PS4, but with the Destiny bundle, I may have to decide more quickly, hense the questions.

But first, a disclaimer:

I like all three companies. I obviously like Nintendo's games more, I like their controllers more, and conquently, I tend to like their consoles more. That won't be an issue for many of you, but there are a select few that I already know are ready to turn an innocent topic about a potencial console purchase into an immature back and forth about which company is better. If you are one of those people, just dont post. I will probably respond to some answers in a way that clearly reflects why I prefer the Wii U, a Steam Machine, and even the XBO in some cases, to the PS4. Obviously the mere fact that this topic is being made means that there are a lot of things I prefer on the PS4, but to that small few that probably won't matter. If you can't handle hearing what may be criticism about Sony, their games, their policies, or their hardware, JUST DON'T POST.

That is all.

1. Will the white PS4 be available after the bundle or is that a limited edition thing?

The biggest thing holding me back is that the PS4 simply isn't worth purchasing right now. None of the big three are. I have a rule that I don't purchase a system until there are at least five must have games on the console, or for Nintendo, a new Zelda or Pokemon. That all went down the drain last year when Nintendo announced that they were remaking my favorite game of all time, Wind Waker. If it wasn't for that, I most likely wouldn't own a Wii U right now as I still don't think it's worth the purchase. All it has is Mario Kart. It will have Smash by the end of the year and Zelda next year, but that's it. Three must own games by the end of next year.

With the PS4, it feels even worse. I see one game that I feel is a must own, and that is No Man's Sky. That, on top of the white PS4, is making me seriously consider buying one early and breaking that rule again. Unfortunately, that brings up another issue.

2. Can No Man's Sky be played without PS+?

That question also applies to Destiny. While I genuinely don't have a real interest in Destiny because it kind of looks boring, since it comes with the PS4, I may as well give it a try before returning it. Here's the thing though, I don't do paid online. I think it's bullshit and a scam and in Sony's case, a direct result of their overall business going to shit. I'm never paying for it, so please don't try and convince me.

I know that there are some technicalities to just what kind of games require PS+, but I'm unfamiliar with what exactly those technicalities are. I think that No Man's Sky is one of those games that wouldn't require PS+ because online is required to play the game, but I'm not sure. That will have a great impact on if I really do invest in a PS4, at least this soon.

3. What big, AAA, single player, 3rd Party games should I get for the PS4?

Since I wouldn't have PS+ with this hypothetical PS4, I'd be restricted to single player games. So what should I get. Here's the catch;

A.) I'm not interested in anything that has come out so far, so only name me games that will come out anytime after today.

B.) There has to be gameplay of it. If it only has a CGI trailer, it's not done enough to be on my radar. Even if there's only 10 seconds of gameplay, it's enough.

C.) Name me the release date/window. If the game has no launch window, that fine. Just put "TBD." I want to know how long I'd have to wait to play games I'm interested in.

D.) They can't require PS+, so if you can think of a big multiplayer game that doesn't require PS+, that's fine too.

E.) No indies. It's redundant, but no indies. I know that No Man's Sky is indie. No indies.

Now I probably already know about all of the games you guys will name. That isn't the point of this question. The point is to remind me. Right now, the only games I can remember that intest me are No Man's Sky, The Witcher 3, and GTA V remastered because I never finished it. I know there are more that I'm forgetting. Refresh my memory.

Convince me to get a PS4 this year! Go!

1. The white PS4 is most likely limited, as PS3 special editions were also always limited (except for Japan I think).

2. Depends if there will be an offline mode.

3. I won't try to convince you as I don't care if you're getting a PS4 or not. :P

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

Question 3 wasn't about convincing me. It asked what games are coming out.

  1. Most likely. If the destiny bundle sells very well then there will most likely be a white PS4 standalone sometime next year.
  2. Well, if a game uses online multiplayer, then it will not be able to be played without PS+. This part is funny though, cause you really only need PS+ for online multiplayer and not to get your games online if that makes sense. However, you should consoder PS+ even if not for the multiplayer. It pretty much pays for itself. Not only do you get discounts on games, you also get free games every month.
  3. Only things that comes to mind, Kingdom come (2015), the witcher 3 (2015), Alien isolation (2015), the witness (2015, this is no mans sky kinda indie if that makes any sense), Rime (2015, again no mans sky kinda indie)..... yup thats it.
Hope that answers your questions, if I may add though.... you really don't seem to not only not like the PS but you seem to be against everything that a PS type console stands for. Having said that, I think you spending all that money for something you obviously don't like is pointless; though its your money so ignore me :) . Especially if you are only doing it for a white console lol. What you have done in your post would be the equivalent of saying I want to buy  wiiU but I need ppl to recommend multiplayer only games and I don't want any nintendo first party games lol.

1)Limited, should be around until christmas
2)Not enough info is out on the game yet
3)ATM Destiny, GTA5 remake is all I can think of this year. The Division(depending on if it has offline), Witcher in 2015. I dont think this game will have as many "AAA" games due to budget constrictions.

Cant convince you if you arent already convinced. I dont think either console is worth it at this point without PS+/XBLG(free games).

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

meh, do it if you want.

on the side note. I find quite hilarous how many time you downplayed ps exclusives.

To the best of my knowledge...

1. The white PS4 has only been announced as a bundle with Destiny. There hasn't been any mention of them bringing a stand-alone white PS4 console to the market.

2. I think it's too early to say at this point. We need more details about No Man's Sky and it's online components. My understanding is that PS+ is not required for "passive" online components (like leaderboards) and it is required for "active" online components (co-op, deathmatches, etc).

3. A few 3rd party AAA games coming out soon (not sure what your tastes are):
Dragon Age: Inquisition - October
Battlefield Hardline - October
Assassin's Creed Unity - October
Call of Duty: Advanced Wars - November
The Crew - November
Far Cry 4 - November
Bloodborne - Q1 2015
Kingdom Hearts 3 - Q2 2026
Final Fantasy XV - Q4 2047

If you are 1 of those stealth guys who is known to not like PS for whatever reason, then please, DO NOT get 1

But..

I'm also going to get a ps4 because of the white system. I also wanted to play Destiny so im pretty much getting that for free. I was going to wait next year but the white one wont be around next year.

Also, look at the games. There is really only like 3 exclusives out for it right now and that's Killzone Shadowfall, Knack and Infamous Second Son

So please dont be that guy that tries to act extremely shocked when you get it and their isnt much exclusives to play.

The only exclusive i'm going to get is Infamous Second Son and maybe DriveClub this year.. I MIGHT also get plants vs zombies garden warfare because it doesnt really have much on it right now

If you dont want ps+ or xbox live you will miss alot of the new generations games. If i where you I should stick to PC.
Still No mans sky is on my radar!!

1. Doubt it.

2. Hasn't been confirmed yet.

3. The Witcher 3, Batman: Arkham Knight, Kingdom Hearts 3, The Last of Us remastered (If you haven't played the first.)
