Is this person saying it's the worst Sonic game because it's so irretrievably bad or because it's so unlike traditional Sonic games, or both? I just watched about five minutes of gameplay footage so I could post a somewhat informed response, and I didn't see the train wreck the author describes. It's got a LEGO-Skylanders things going on, which I don't think is so bad. It definitely doesn't look or play like other Sonic games, but it doesn't look half-bad.

did you read what he wrote? most of the issues came from it seeming to control like clunky crap. You could watch all the videos you want but you can never get how a game is going to control by just watching it

Well that's true. But neither can you know how a game is going to control just by reading an essay based on a demo written by a solitary man.

Please! Someone cut off Sonic's legs

They just need to make more Sonic games like this:

Generations was probably the best Sonic game of the last 15 years.

Not even. Everything that wasn't 2D classic Sonic stages was trash. Sonic Advance 2 is the greatest Sonic game of all time. It improved on everything the classics did while modernizing the formula without completely changing it. The classic 2D sections of Generations where awesome, though, before they ruined Classic Sonic with the homing attack as an "upgrade."

Yeah, I saw the gameplay and it's almost Sonic 06 bad.

so they also slowed the game down. Probably something to do with all the complaints about the previous one being too hard cause it was fast lol.

I'm fortunate to not have held high expectations of this title. I feel sorry for anyone that did. We've all been there.

Generations and Colors are the best we got. Enjoy those for a while, because the dark ages are coming back.

Brace yourselves, "Should Nintendo buy Sega?" threads are coming.

I think people are over critical of Sonic these days, like its industry standard to bash every game and compare it to the original games. I think Lost World is a super game, in fact its one of the best Sonic games, yet it was mostly bashed by the gaming press. I shall get Sonic Boom and reserve judgement for myself.

The classic stages were better, though the modern stages weren't bad to me. I think we can both agree though that the closer Sonic gets to his classic 2D roots the better the results tend to be. Sonic just doesn't seem to ever work as a 3D game (except maybe the original Sonic Adventure, though the last 15 years haven't been kind to it).

I definitely agree with that. I honestly think the Sonic Adventure series handled 3D stages the worse. As mediocre as Lost World was, the best 3D sections in that game where the best in the franchise. That's not saying much, but I thing they had the best grasp on how to do Sonic in 3D with that one. I definitely don't want a Lost World sequel, though.
