Forums - Gaming - I miss my favourite genre

I started thinking that I really miss my favorite genre. The games I grew up with and really played hours upon hours. Games like Secret of Mana, Terranigma, Illusion of Gaia, A Link to the Past, Allundra, Chrono Trigger. Even lesser entries like Soulblazer. Why is no one producing such glorious games anymore? The simple and straight forward stories, the wonderful graphics, the precision gameplay, not having to worry about unprecise 3D-movement?

I hope a link between worlds is half as good as all those glorious gems. If so, I am in for a real treat.

Any indie games I need to check out? Any developer who has the balls to take on the greatest game genre ever conceived?

Play the Zeboyd Games RPGs.  Breath of Death 7, Cthulu Saves the World, Penny Arcade 3 and 4.  I've purchased the others, but have only played Breath of Death 7 and it's better than some of the retail RPGs I've played this gen.

My favorite dead genre is 2D beat em up's. Ah the memories.

Consoles: 3DS, Wii U, and Vita soon. Super Paper Mario fan.

Secret of Mana is my #1 game of all time.

Would really love to see them revisit that franchise. A modern remake with a third-person view (ie. Ocarina of Time) and three-player co-op would be amazing.

It's all about the game.

I am not talking about RPGs though.

You listed action RPGs, an RPG(Chrono Trigger,) and  then action RPGs.  Some people think Zelda/Alundra/Illusion of Gaia are RPGs assumped with everything else you listed being an RPG, including one that's a regular RPG, that that's what you meant.

You are right. But I dont consider Chrono Trigger to be an RPG but rather a very RPGee 2D action adventure - if you understand what I mean. Lots of RPG elements, but more like an Action Adventure of old. Thats why I didnt list anything like FF or BoF. They are ok, but ultimately a bit boring imo.

I miss puzzle adventurer's like Myst, the 7th Hour and the 11th Guest...though, I think the Witness will be kind of reviving that genre.
