Hmm ofcourse. That's a familiar one for Philips products to my experience.
No doubt they'll be using it in Philips right now after this ofcourse.
Betcha if Ninty infringed on some poor middle class guys patent he would be labeled a patent troll and Nintendo would be heel kicking him the courts. Now it's big corps against each other and it's a fair fight. If you come up with an idea and patent it someone else with more money than you shouldn't just be able to go and use your idea, fund it , have the courts label you a "patent troll" and then take your patent from you just because they have more money.
Thanks jlmurph!
Oh no! They will probably lose against Philips in every other country now and be required to pay them. :(

Patent trolling is a far greater threat to innovation than what you describe. It's doing measurable damage to tech startups as we speak.

Paying someone to use their patent is and should be a part of the price of business. Isn't Microsoft getting a s-ton of money from a phone company for a patent or something like that? (Just an example, I'm actually happy to see a success story of someone owning a patent and profiting from it) Why do only big corporations get to profit of their patents and people that can't afford legal battles get heel stomped by big corporations in the courtroom. If you can't pay someone to use their patent, well sir, you just need to wait until you can.
Thanks jlmurph!

They are getting money from manufactures of Android products. Supposedly, the open source Android is an infringment on a Microsoft patent. I had someone explain it to me awhile back but I still don't fully understand or believe. Apparently, they have a case because Samsung and a bunch of others pay them royalties.
Microsoft probably makes more money off Android than they do off Windows phones.

When this case was initially filed I read about it. One patent was filed by Phillips AFTER the release of the Wii so already that claim should be null.
While the other patent is very vague, so much so that if they are suing Nintendo then there is no reason said patent is also infringed by the PS Move or MS Kinect.
From what I read (including the actual claim they filed to court) it seems like a stab to get some money and nothing else.

UK courts can be just as bad about these types of things as the US.

Same for Nintendo.
