He didnt say to expect less AAAs and he didnt mention first parties either hes talking about AAAs in general and he is right they are getting less frequent and way more expensive.

um... you do realize him saying that pretty much means to expect less titles right ? And that would be expect less accross the board.

No that means he said that theyve been getting less frequent, he never said that wouldnt change or that Sony would stop/slow down on developping AAAs. Also the title the OP gave to the thread was a complete sensationalization, specially when everyone and theyre mon knows Sonys greatest strenght has always been theyre 1st parties AAA titles.

If he was saying we should expect less AAAs he would have said that and he didnt.

Less frequent means less AAA games. Less AAA games means you should expect less

The definition of what counts as a full priced game has changed over the years. In the NES era you could have a watered down arcade port like Spy Hunter or Balloon Fight and that was a full game. Games that could be beaten or have the full experience in one playthrough, for $50-$60 in 80's money. Gradually it got to the point where it had to be 3D or 2.5D to be a full retail release. Now it's to the point where it has to have voice acting, motion capture, an epic storyline, and cutscenes to constitute a $60 price. The demand for what qualifies as $60 has really evolved.

I don't think game makers can keep up with this. The model is fine for some games, but I wish we'd see games sell for less and maybe skip the voice acting, HD graphics and multiplayer, and sell a game for $40 that's chock full of gameplay. Games like God of War are great and I couldn't imagine them without the epicness and movie like direction but games like Mega Man (X) could never be full retail like the older games. They would never sell for $60 today 2D. And that means there really hasn't been a new console non compilation type release Mega Man at all in over 10 years.

I think things like XBLA and PSN are great in that they give an outlet for games that could never qualify in today's gamers eyes as full priced titles but can at least be enjoyed at a lower price point. I think that the games that cost obscene amounts of money today may make them a $60 title, but I wish we'd see more games priced based on cutting out the things that aren't necessary for a game and see more games as a result and sell better at a $30-40 price point. I would like to see them stay retail releases though, I'm stubborn for a physical case and manual :)

Think the quote is taken out of context as it more applies to the entire industry.

At first I was like:

That said......there are always ways. MS got exclusivity for Ryse from Crytek and DR3 from Capcom (and kept it off PS4), hired Double Helix to make Killer Instinct, bought out the PS versions of Titanfall, they bought/negotiated exclusivity for Sunset Overdrive, hired Playground games to make Forza Horizon 2.

But then:

Until MS's own studios come up with the games, they find a way.

Then:

So what's Sonys excuse in 2014 with just Infamous and Drive Club????

Penultimately:

Compensating with hardware boosts from XB/PS multiplats like Watch Dogs and Destiny? Just seems to me that Sony either poorly planned their release schedule or are allready getting complacent because PS4 is winning.

And Finally:

Yes it does. We're talking about first party AAA games.

God of War Ascension, Puppetter, The Last of Us, Beyond 2 souls, Gran Turismo 6, Knack, Shadow Fall, Infamous SS, LBP3 and Driveclub

Versus F5 and FH2

Sony wins, no matter how you spin it.

Killer Instict is not AAA btw. Otherwise i can include Resogun.

Use the quote button.

I said not to nitpick the list as the point was that MS finds a way, not the games themselves. What is with PS fans matching KI with Resogun??? Because they are both digital? That makes no sense if true. It's like comapring Geometry Wars to Tekken. Ones a bite sized game and the other has very high replayability.

Just seems like poor planning then, since Sony insisted on releasing many great PS3 games in the same year PS4 launched.

This comment is just so wrong on so many levels.  So what if only 4 AAA will only be released on the ps4 in 2014.  Sony still remembers they have a huge following on the ps3 too.  They aren't like MS that literally abandons their gamerbase 2 years before the next console release... Lol.  What does ms have to show for all the Xbox gamer's loyalty?  Nothing.. Its basically buy the new console or no more games for you.  If anything PS gamers know they'll get games... Sony knows how to keep their gamer base.. Heck some exclusives are still making their way onto the ps3 well into 2014 and beyond.. 2014 might be looking slim on the ps4, but its not like there aren't already a bunch of games to play at the moment too. When you finally get for halos, forza, gears of war, and fable in the next year or two, then what? More halo, gears of war, forza and halo.  Isn't that the only thing MS 1st party studios are capable of?  Its funny the knock on Sony and their studios when MS's are the saddest of the lot.  Its also foolish to think these studios also lounge around with nothing in the pipeline.  We'll see what's in store in 2015 & 2016 when the shift will be from ps3 to strictly ps4.

I was always happy with what 360 offered. I didn't need 12 exclusives per year to brag about online.....and not buy most of them in real life.

Don't know what you are looking at but 360 is getting some nice support in 2014. I mean for its ninth year it got Fable Anniversary, Titanfall (not on PS3), Project Spark, and FH2. Which is more then I can say for PS3 1st party in 2014, and its in its 8th year by comparison.

dude.. it's like you only brag about selective years that your starving 360 console gets something.  What happened in 2012, 2013 and what's happening in 2014 & 2015? even in your so called glorious 2012 year with Halo 4.. that was it.  Did you see what PS gamers got?  Then in 2013?  and even now?  and like i've said.. you name 3 games that are yet to be out.. but it's claimable because you have to hope they come out otherwise your comment will look foolish.  it's not about 12 exclusives to brag about online.. it's about not abandoning your gamerbase, which MS has a known track for doing, from both the original xbox and now x360.  You guys are literally hoping something comes your way especially now that the x1 is out. PS on the other hand knows how to keep the gaming community alive on their systems.  the ps2 was supported, though with minor releases, all the way up until 2010.  same thing will happen with ps3.. the 360 was basically dead as soon as the x1 was announced.. and by next year, it'll be surprising if anything major gets dropped for it.

I am talking about the current year 2014. Yes 360 was starved in the last few, but hey, its getting support now.......in its ninth year. Playing Titanfall like crazy here, plus the free Games for Gold. That ain't abandoning, 360 is still going strong and again, I can't stress this enough, its on the shelf after 9 years, so do not comapre it to the origional XBox.

I named 4 games, 2 allready out, one with a confirmed release date (FH2), and Project Spark being the only one that is TBA. And if PS is delayed to 2015....thats 360 1st party support in a consoles 10th year. So you really should stop looking at 2011-2013 to judge them now.

Seriously, its 9th year has two 1st party releases now, 1 TBA (possibly 2015), and Titanfall (not on PS3). Recognize. PS3 blew its load in 2013 1st party wise (its 6th year), and now all it will get is MLB. Looks like 360 ironically gets the last laugh.

I am too.. you can't expect every year to be BIG years.. considering how much support Sony's been doing for the gamers still on the PS3 compared to what MS's has been doing for the gamers still on the 360.  There is no competition.. can't say, well, MS has basically been gone a few years on the 360, but they come back for 1 year makes up for the years they were already gone.  On the PS platform, it's year after year of consistency, .. you always get new games on their from 1st or 3rd party.  And even still, from 2014 til beyond excluvies will show up on the ps3.  the same can't be said for the 360.  after this year, can you guarantee MS will still care much for the 360 in 2015 and onward?  Did MS just blow their last load for the 360 in 2014?  you don't even know because beyond 2014.. there is basically nothing else coming to the 360.  Just wiki gen7 exlcusives themselves and you can see yourself what's been happening on both consoles.

PS3 exclusives - 2006 (11- 5 from sony), 2007 (17-12 from sony), 2008 (23-15 from sony), 2009 (15-10 from sony), 2010 (23-14 from sony - 12 move req)*, 2011 (20-12 from sony - 6 move req)*, 2012 (26-15 from sony - 5 move req)*, 2013 (19-9 from sony), 2014 (?)

now look at the 360:

360 exclusives - 2005 (10-5 from MS), 2006 (30-4 from MS), 2007 (21-5 from MS), 2008 (19-8 from MS), 2009 (23-9 from MS), 2010 (23-13 from MS - 14 kinect req)*, 2011 (38-9 from MS - 33 kinect req)*, 2012 (15-6 from MS - 12 kinect req)*, 2013 (2-2 from MS), 2014 (?)

Just going off the years in cycle, the number of exclusives, the number of exclusives published/produced by MS & Sony, and the number of exxlusives that required the kinect/move.. the 360 was the sad game bunch. and yea.. MS hasn't blown a load since 2011 and now in 2014.  But as you can see, Sony has blown their load every year since release.  if you average it out.. since console launch, sony's releases ~11.5 exclusives/yr. with ~12 in the last 3 yrs.  MS releases ~6.7 exclusives/yr with ~5.6 in the last 3 years.  Just look comparing last year, and its almost like the 360 didnt even exist.

so.. i highly doubt there are any last laugh at all from the 360 crowd.. looks more to me like a reason to move over to the ps4 this gen.

Look just focusing on the present and goind forward, Sony is done with the PS3, except MLB and whatever japanese 3rd party games make their way. MS is supporting their console in its 9th year. You are questioning 360 support in its 10th year? Damn you realize how late that is? Like GOW2 released in PS2's 7th year...nevermind 10. Just think you are reeaaally playing down 360's longevity and 9th year support.
