Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto:Dual gamepad support still possible but not priority

Certainly as we've been working on Wii U, I think we're at a point where we don't feel it's realistic to expect people to purchase two GamePads yet. We're still trying to get as many people as possible to buy the system itself, and that's where our focus is right now. For the time being, two GamePad gameplay is not within our objectives in the short-term.

From a technical standpoint, I think if we decided to pursue that, technically we would be able to and we can perform system updates that would allow for that. It's also very interesting from a gameplay perspective idea because there are a lot of possibilities with two GamePads. But, at the same time, taking that kind of approach would again be a drain on resources and require us to continue to utilize our development resources for that. So then it would become a question of where do we want to devote our resources: Is it to creating regular GamePad games, or creating games centered around two GamePads?

Rather than making games centered around 2 GamePads, I'd rather see a system update that simply allows more than one GamePad to be used in local multiplayer games such as Kart and Smash.

There are so many possibilities for games with two gamepads. Like, if they could offer a gamepad alone for $60 and give me a compelling piece of software, even if it's pretty simple, I'd be ALL OVER that. That would make the system really different, in my eyes. Currently it often feels like the gamepad is best for Off-TV or real time touch maps/menus, which is great, but doesn't change the way I play like this could.

You can both ready things on your own screens but have things come together on the big TV. I don't know, I'm just feeling there are local multiplayer strategy game applications possible here.

Im a big SP gamer, so Im fine with it...

Gamepad alone will easily cost 100 not 60 just saiyan.

The gamepad is like the complete opposite of NIntendo's Wii philosophy lol.

I remember reading somewhere that it cost Nintendo roughly $70 to make one.  That was a while back, so it might be down to the low 60's now.  Perhaps they can sell them for $75-$80.

They where cheap with the components, so making anything that looks AAA on 2 gamepads is impossible. Playing a burnout-like racer or FPS with splitscreen/2 gamepads could have been a wonderful experience.

The concept was good (as good as it can get with the controller itself) but the execution was lackluster IMO. And seeing what E3 was all about I think that we can say goodbye to multiple gamepad possibilities....
