Forums - Gaming Discussion - Whats more powerful, PS4 vs Xbox One + cloud + 10% June SDK + DX12? - Your opinion?

Which console is more powerful?

PS4 Standalone 565 90.11%

Xbox One w/ Cloud + 10% June SDK + DX12 62 9.89%

Total:627

XOne + all those Secret Souces + some Cloudy days (its even better if its rainning) is better than a 2000$ PC we all know that so this is not even a contest the PS quadruple could never beat the power of the cloudy secret souce.

That's not true... You can return your Xbox One and buy a Ps4 and vice versa ; )

Oh snap.

Honestly it's all wishful thinking on MS fans part, it shows that people actually don't understand what's under the hood for both these consoles.

Software improvements can only make existing hardware run more efficiently and that's how dev's are typically able to squeeze every last bit of juice out of a console..

However Software improvements cannot make the actual hardware itself better. The issue here is that the on a hardware level the PS4 has more power under the hood, the XB1 has less. This is one thing that WILL not change.
We will always see a gap in performance, both consoles will see API improvements as this is standard.

Will XB1 games look good? Sure they will, nobody is saying they won't but to say they have closed the gap or that the XB1 is now more powerful then than the PS4 is pure lunacy!

Cloud is BS but now its DEDICATED SERVERS!!!

we need to have this discussion again with this new variable.

Your opinion?

So far, (w/o SDK and DX12) we know pretty much PS4 is the more powerful/faster machine?

Do you think the addition of the three extra factors will allow xbox one to overtake ps4 in the graphics department?

Titanfall Offsetted AI to the cloud, allowing for a greater resolution. This was before the 10% extra space was freed up, and obviously DX12 is not out yet.

But when DX12 is out, and likely takes advantage of the extra 10% plus better optimisation, can they actually push their teramafloppy thingy?

Edit: For what it's worth I only really want to know your opinion, I voted PS4

- June SDK merely gives back to XB1 what it should have, to begin with, still way less powerful than PS4. What decreases the gap a bit  actually are the boosted clock speeds, so the performance gap of roughly 30-50% still remains

- DX12 will not do much to XB1, which already has much lower access to the hardware. It will benefit the console in some other ways though, possibly overcome some CPU-bound cases, streamline the PC to XB1 cross development and it may present some relative advantages against PS4, probably bringing XB1 CPU performance closer to PS4. (GPU and memory are the main problem).

- Cloud is only useful with CPU, so XB1 will never have the graphics parity with PS4. However, in some very limited cases (multiplayer & online only scenarios), the additional cloud processing may be beneficial for physics and AI etc). These are things very rarely appreciated by the crowd and there is nothing that stops Sony from implementing a similar technoogy. This has nothing to do with the console but rather the online service anyway.

So there you have it. Although all three will more or less benefit the XB1, none of them is anywahere near to put XB1 ahead of PS4 technically. Some other time, MS.

Playstation 5 vs XBox Series Market Share Estimates

Regional Analysis  (only MS and Sony Consoles)
Europe     => XB1 : 23-24 % vs PS4 : 76-77%
N. America => XB1 :  49-52% vs PS4 : 48-51%
Global     => XB1 :  32-34% vs PS4 : 66-68%

Just to clear this up: AI is done on CPU. Resolution depends on rasterization resources on GPU. You can offload all AI you want and won't get a pixel out of it.

This here is pretty much being overlooked by everyone. It isn't a feature that Sony or Nintendo couldn't do with their current consoles. And more than that, people are thinking that cloud processing will improve graphics for X1. MS cloud infrastructure is Windows Azure. It was created and oriented to processing, clusters, high-availability storage and databases, but no graphics processing. Just hosting dedicated servers there isn't a revolution. I could create a game for PS4 and host servers on Azure.

And the fun fact is that the only one of the 3 doing rendering on cloud is Sony using PS Now.

If PS4 is still more powerful after XB1 getting all those upgrade, than we might see an XB1.5 in 2016 with all the XB1 hardware 2x power up ver...
