Banned, no, but there should be action against companies implying that a product shown is what a game will look like for a given system. The Batman gameplay for PS4 is actually a worse culprit than some CGI stuff, just because it is implied false advertising. I would wager a class action suit would have success in the US. The Blood borne reveal was completely silly, I'm surprised some were actually excited about that video.

While I'm sitting here surprised that anyone could not be excited after that video.  Different strokes for different foks I guess.

True, and I respect that.  It just wasn't a game. I only get excited by games.  At least titles like Uncharted and Zelda were in-game scripted scenes and from existiting IP's where we know what the gameplay will be like.  I suppose you could stretch Darksouls over what was seen from the Bloodborne CGI and imagine something great.

Actually, in Bloodborne's case, they actually showed gameplay later in a stream, and then in a few days there was a leaked gameplay trailer. It's really odd that they only showed a CGI trailer.

If there were no background for the video then sure I could see the comment, but it's made by From Software and the creator of Demon's Souls himself, in collaboration with SCEJ, and we already had a ton of leaked gameplay to show that it isn't a stretch to think it'll have that Dark Souls gameplay and vibe.  Everything seen after the trailer confirmed that as well.

Cool, I didn't see that.  I'll have to check it out.

I don't think they should be banned, but I do think M$ should be banned from using them at E3. They horribly abused them this time around, heh.

I'm talking about CGI that is not part of the game and is made only as a trailer to a game. In-game cinematics are fine. I think I could live with a little CGI alongside gameplay to make the trailer look nice, but nothing like a full on CGI trailer.

This E3 was infested with full CGI trailers during both MS and Sony press conferences. I mean seriously, what exactly is the purpose of these things? They can be rather misleading, but even more so disappointing since they don't show anything about how the game actually looks or plays. I know people are going to say that the devs aren't ready to show gameplay yet, but if you aren't ready to show GAMEplay of your GAME, then you shouldn't be showing your game yet in the first place because evidently it is way too early in the dev cycle.. If you want to showcase the story, use in game character models and/or cutscenes, not CGI trailers.

What do you guys think?

it is weird... MAJORITY of the comments here doesnt answer your OP... lol

ahahahahahaha

90% of vgchartz user base their answer on the title.... LOL

and i agree.... it is nice to have CGI trailer that is not base on the actual game such as DEAD ISLAND.... great trailer but does it have anything to do with the actual game? no!!!!! so why show it?

before they just show an actual peson then show bits of the actual game play... but no gameplay and the cut scenes is not even from the actual game is just sad....

IMO i think most of the games that was showed is part of the CGI of the game... i don't think E3 is infested with CGI that is pulled from the game... but again i agree they should not showcase CGI if it is not part of the game

The CGI trailer is just for advertising purposes. It gets more attention than an announcement and it still gives an idea of what the product will be.

Maybe live action commercials for games should also be banned? We could be seeing gameplay instead.

just marketing, nothing more. it's up 2 each person 2 do the real research of the game.

Agreed, anybody who can invest numerous hours into a game can atleast take a few minutes check out a video review or something.
