Forums - Nintendo - Recommend me a Wii U hard drive

I was thinking about buying a Wii U hard drive soon and would like to know some recommendations from fellow Wii U owners.

Which one(s) has worked for you. Do you need a Y cable or something else to make it better? (I need a portable hard drive)

There is the one I use. They used to have a list of hardrives on the Nintendo website. I know this was one of them.

I got this one, and it gave me problems... when it turns off, and if I want to play a game, it freezes the console.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I use this one:

Can't really go wrong with Western Digital since they are pretty much the best company out there when it comes to Mechanical Hard Drives and it comes with a 2 Year Warranty! Also, I believe its on sale right now for $80, oh and its a 2TB hard drive! But by the love of god, Format dat shit when you get it cause the software it comes with is terrible! Oh and it uses external power

Thanks but I should've stated I need a portable one. The way my Wii U is in the room, it needs something small to just sit on top of it.

I don´t know of a good portable one. But i have a 2 TB Seagate that works perfect.

anything from Seagate or Hitachi. Mine is 1TB Hitachi and works perfectly

If you are looking for a small HDD you will need this:

http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-dual-Micro-B-Cable-Black/dp/B005M0ICG2/ref=pd_sim_e_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=12YRS5S6FN43TA05HX2S

With that cable you can basically connect any HDD you want (as far as I know at least). I use this hard drive with the cable and I haven't gotten any problems at all.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Dunno what to recommend, but I got this one http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Portable-External-STBX500100/dp/B00834SJSK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1402800028&sr=8-1&keywords=Seagate+500GB+external+hard+drive and a y cable to go with it. However, not sure if I would actually recommend it myself only because you would need to go find yourself a 3.0 y cable as well.

I don't know much about this so can you explain how it works...

How does the Y cable give the HD power? Does it plug into an outlet or something and the other end in the HD / Wii U?
