Nintendo's Takashi Tezuka has confirmed in the affirmative to USGamer, in the process also suggesting that other franchises could make an appearance. http://www.usgamer.net/articles/e3-2014-im-unreasonably-excited-about-mario-maker

"Obviously, there will be other graphical styles included. And nothing's been decided yet, but I'd also like to include other graphics that aren't Mario"

I would think Metriod. Remember that Nintendo was talking about a 2D and 3D Metroid.

Why not have the fans make one version themselves? It's a lot cheaper and no fan complaints :).
