Sony Working on Unannounced PS4 Unreal Engine 4 Game with Real-Time Cinematics

We’ve seen plenty evidence of the level of visual fidelity provided by Unreal Engine 4, and apparently Sony Computer Entertainment is embracing it for one or more games, as revealed by a new career opportunity ad seeking a Senior Game Engineer.

The Senior Game Engineer will be involved in many technical areas critical to our company’s success.  They will work with a team of artists and engineers to develop 3D real-time game cinematics.  They will be involved in pushing the envelope of new technologies that look excellent in a game engine.   The ideal candidate will play an integral role in shaping our game production processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in a team to develop in-house game content in UE4
  • Write shading systems for UE4 to make content look it’s best
  • Optimize C++ engine code for real-time
  • Help to build and guide the direction of next generation real-time cinematics
  • Work on skin and eye shading systems as well as proper shadowing for real-time
  • Help to realize amazing looking demo material for our visual arts group
  • Identify possible issues and provide practical alternatives/solutions

The job is located in San Diego, and the ad hints to the Visual Arts Group, which is a division o Sony’s Product Development Services Group working with Sony’s AAA first party studios like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Guerrilla and more to provide support with Animation, Motion Capture, Cinematics, Art and 3D Scanning.

While we don’t know which studio (or studios) the candidate will work with, Sony Computer Entertainment doesn’t have any announced Unreal Engine 4 games at the moment, so it has to be for one or more unannounced titles. The description also indicates games with a high level of visual fidelity in their cinematics, and “next generation,” pointing towards one or more PS4 titles.

Of course Sony didn’t make any official announcement about this yet, so we’ll have to consider this a rumor and stand-by for more information. Sony Worldwide Studio President Shuhei Yoshida promised that the house of PlayStation has more arrows in its quiver for Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show, so we might hear more then.

Dualshockers and their job listing articles again...really can't take those seriously at all.

Why not ? Listing job are reals

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Hmm it seems that Sony this gen is embracing 3rd party engines more over proprietary engines or something like Phyre engine was, than it was last gen.

Also guessed which site it was from and that it's related to job listing

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Because those are literally the most speculative articles of them all.

They dont speculate, just say the truth, they hire for a new game, so there is an unannounced game with unreal engine 4. excpet cancellation, these hire list are always connected to a game

I already knew the website before even looking at it. I'm getting tired of these job listing articles. I would have much rather had Sony talk about this at their E3. This does nothing for me.

Agree about dual shockers, but listing a job ad is pretty irrefutable proof.

could be third party exclusive or collaboration
considering it's UE4

Maybe Sony is helping optimize UE4 on PS4, to give 3rd party devs, and indies a better tool for building games. They absorb a lot of small games already in development, and they get the Xdev or Santa Monica Logo slapped on them.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
