Forums - Nintendo - Anyone else pretty skeptical about Starfox U?

Starfox U was teased this E3. Normally, this would have me over the moon. I love SF64, and I have always wanted Nintendo to make another game in the series that wasn't complete shite like Starfox Command, Assault, Adventures, etc.  I know what was shown was a SUPER early prototype, but the control scheme just doesn't interest me at all, and in fact, it really turns me off.

Basically, you control your plane with both analog sticks, and aim by using the gamepad as a looking glass of sorts. Seems kinda interesting for a tech demo, but I do not want it at all for a new starfox game. This control scheme means you won't really be looking at beautiful HD stages on the TV, and you will have to use a motion scheme that seems awfully gimmicky and unnessesary.  Plus, based on the impressions I read, there is a lot of switching between looking at the Gamepad and the TV, which is quite uncomfortable in my opinion, and doesn't seem to suit the fast twitchy gameplay of classic star fox stages.

Definitely not trying to be negative with this post, I'm excited at the mere prospect of a new starfox game. Nintendo had a great e3, and I can't wait for more info. Just can't help but wonder if the control scheme there going with is the right one.

Yeah, I have a lot of reservations about what I've heard regarding the gamepad control scheme. If it's an optional play style and it can still be played with a pro controller or at least able to turn off the motion nonsense on the gamepad it would set my mind at ease.

Really hoping for this.

I'm cold on the new Star Fox idea.

What I want is something crazy from Platinum with it. What little I saw at E3 doesn't impress at all.

Obviously it's still a prototype, but currently it's a game I'm not interested in, hopefully Nintendo finds a dev who can change that.

I agree with you OP. We will see if they deliver or not.

Sure, I'm skeptical. They basically haven't even started making the game yet and they want to release it within the next 18 months.

But Miyamoto seems to actually care about this iteration of the franchise, so I'm confident it will be the strongest installment since 64.

I am not skeptical! I am actually pretty excited since Star Fox U seems to be more like Star Fox 64 than Adventures and Assault!

It's still in the infant stages of development from what i can gather. I wouldn't worry too much

I am only dishearted because the gameplay is not how I envisioned. Still faaaaaar too early to say anything about it though.
But in the end I want it to be Nintendo's Warhawk (one of my top PS3 games).
Miyamoto! Please give it a robust online with more than 10 vs 10.

There's very little we saw from E3. Have hope. Star Fox is in the very capable hands of Miyamoto!

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
