Forums - Nintendo - Will Star Fox bomb on the Wii U? Post your early predictions

Most of the recent Starfox's sucked. The DS one was skipped because people really wanted a normal Starfox game on console. Not on a handheld. No one wanted the two on GC cause those were dumb. And reissuing Starfox64 was lame as well. All I want is Starfox 3 that follows from the N64 one.

I loved StarFox Adventures on Gamecube. I hope it turns out to be an awesome game, been waiting on a new StarFox for a long time now.

I also skipped the hand held versions.

Everything boils back down to marketing.

Of course it will bomb... it doesn't have "Mario" in the title, and it'll get zero marketing from Nintendo.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Every Star Fox since 64 has sold badly, and every Star Fox since 64 has been very different from both of the first two titles. They just plain haven't given us another true Star Fox game since then, so we really DON'T know how one might sell.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if this one does well, but I wouldn't be surprised if it floundered either. 64 came at a time when that sort of thing was new and amazing. Now if they give us a 45-minute on-rails shooter and try to sell it to us for sixty bucks they're probably going to be disappointed. A new Star Fox needs to be huge and have a lot of content and spectacle and multiplayer that blows us away. Aces of the Galaxy is basically everything you could expect from a "modern" Star Fox, and you can get that for only ten bucks, so Nintendo's got to do a lot to get my money.

EDIT:  Apparently Adventures and Assault didn't sell super terribly, but there's definitely been a decline.  Point stands!  *pounds table*

DKTF had marketing, but did not do that great, especially compared to mk8.

Uhhh no. It didn't even have half of MK8's marketing.

Starfox Adventures and StarFox Assault sold over 1 million each, doesn't sound bad to me at all. StarFox 64 sold more, true, but the market has changed drastically and an On Rails Shooter won't sell much anymore. A combo os SF64 mixed with SF Assault if done right, could fare much better sales. Advertising and marketing will also affect sales.

This game could have the best marking in the world, and it would still bomb. They're going to make the game in just one year, hire a 3rd party to help, and sell it for $60? This is the game that'll kill the franchise because Nintendo is too stupid to expand it into a game that takes more than 40 minutes to beat.

The game Star Fox purists want isn't what will sell, but more importantly than sales because they don't matter, it isn't what the franchise deserves. It needs to expand beyond just a $20 eshop title being sold at retail for $60. It should and could be Nintendo's Mass Effect. It could be great, but the franchise will simper with this mess. One year. Ugh.

And gyroscope aiming? Jesus Christ, Miyamoto. We discovered the right analog stick over a decade ago.

Star Fox Assault is the closest the franchise has come to what it should be heading towards, and it was so mediocre and short that it failed to impress. Mass Effect + No Man's Sky + Star Wars Battle Front + Star Wars Rogue Squadron + Star Fox Smash Bros graphics is what would sell and still be good. Not this shit. And no, Star Fox 64 is not the end all be all of Star Fox. Leave the 64 knock off to the eshop where it belongs.

fans ask for it for years it doesnt really matter how much it will sell.

I am saying its sales were not as good as compared to mk8. Not that its advertising was on par with mk8.

But it had decent marketing in the states.

My point is:

Marketing = Sales ... At least for the most part.
