I get what people mean about Nintendo being too restrictive or controlling about how they want their games to be presented, but by the very fact that they're looking for ways to enhance the experience instead deserves applause, not derision.

I believe your are reading way too much into this. The working part of the sentence is by itself. Meaning that you have to have editing tools and the such, which the Wii U and 3DS doesn't have. Done right they are interesting, but most of time just raw footage is pretty boring.

Yes but a lot of the let's play video, especially the good one are edited and the Wii U doesn't currently have the tools nesscessary, and there is no garentee they would be used if supplied, as eveidenced by 90% of PS4/One feeds.

If they were totally against streaming they wouldn't of bothered to included a form of it with MK8, which auto edits for you and gives you a highlight reel instead of a entire raw stream.

This is also why you can only upload auto-edited highlight reels from MKTV, which, incidentally, are timed with the music, and have only minor tools for the user to tweak (focus on certain characters, items and so on)

Why don't they just tell the truth, the Wii U cant do it, it wont have anywhere near the system reserves needed for the OS to do this in the background, telling gamers that streaming gameplay isnt fun in the age of twitch, you tube and e-sports is just ridiculous.

I take it that downloading games in the background while we play other games also isnt fun, not that the 3DS is just incapable of doing it.

At least Nintendo always give us a different perspective.

My thoughts about it:
1- It has nothing to do with Hardware inability, they really believe that.

2- They should understand that entertainment works differently for each person. Some like action movies others like terror. If you are the theater, you shouldn't ignore any genre. I have little interest in Call of Duty/Watch Dogs/Destiny, but that thing sells consoles, pays you royalties (that allows you to create more Nintendo Goodness) and increase your user base. .

3- On the other hand they may fear that people are watching instead of playing. I do know friends who watched both TLoU and/or GTAV full story modes in youtube and considered that was enought for them. I do believe they shouldn't fear this, since Nintendo games are way more gameplay based than story based.


Personally, i couldn't care less about twitch streams, but MKTV impressed some friends and one of them bought a Wii U soon after that. There is power on this kind of thing (they know that, since MKTV is their doing) and they need to learn how to use it.
