Forums - Gaming - Nintendo's treehouse is genius.

The Nintendo Treehouse has been genius this E3.

Did the Treehouse gameplay footage sell you on a game you didn't think was so good? I personally thought Splatoon and Project: Giant Robot gained a lot of traction as they were shown to us. Splatoon grew on me fast while seeing it in practice. Giant Robot had me thinking "what the f*ck are you doing wasting time on this garbage" when they first introduced it, but earlier today when it was streamed and a far more relaxed player had his hands on it, it looked a lot more entertaining than it initially did.

I've spent two days almost constantly watching footage from the Treehouse to the point I'd forgotten there was anything other than Nintendo at the show. They did a good job of letting us see how the games played instead of crappy CGI trailers for the most part. They also had good personalities playing with these games that made it more like watching a miniature lets play than a game demo. The Splatoon Devs were also pretty cool as well, they had a little too much excitement in being there, it was funny. They even managed to bring out some stuff that they didn't touch in their ND presentation as well, leaving me to wonder if they're hiding some nice little bits to send us off with tomorrow.

So do Sony and Microsoft again try to copy Nintendo next E3?

They had their own living streaming event as well. They had it alongside Nintendo's Treehouse, but I will admit wasn't as fun as watching the Treehouse. Nintendo's live streaming was far far better than Sonys. It was always in a dark room, like a dave and busters and you watched players with little explanation as some random guy plays the game. The Nintendo one was more livelier with people who worked on in the treehouse. It was live and unscripted. Sony's was just a downer tone to me.

Did microsoft have one too? I didn't even attempted to watch theirs.

This is the same thing from the last gen, minus the mass appeal from the previous Nintendo offering. Something my niece would play but not at all something me and my money would spend on playing games for myself.

I see it time and time again. Families buy the Nintendo console. Gamer's with money buy and HD console for newer adult stuff and possibly a Nintendo console for the games they loved as a child. I don't like to harp on the meme that Nintendo only caters to children, but it seems beyond opinion that Nintendo is family friendly oriented while the other consoles seems to have a wider audience, both family games (even if they are not 'as good as nintendo') as well as adult specific (tits and death).

I really don't know how else to put it. Nintendo seems to be nothing more than nostalgia and younger audiences. And yes I consider fathers and mothers playing with their kids as a younger audience.

A warrior keeps death on the mind from the moment of their first breath to the moment of their last.

@Dharh

Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Smash Bros, Devils Third, Fatal Frame and Legend of Zelda aren't exactly games for children.

Didn't take long to get a generic, typical hardcore post.

People who claim they want to spend their money on more "adult" games or don't bother with "childish" games strike me as a little immature. They can't seem to appreciate a game because it's not about blood and tits. They overlook the facets of a good game such as art style, controls, setting, story, etc., because they aren't comfortable with playing a "kiddie" game. It's precisely because people think grit, gore, guns, and the absence of color are facets of being an "adult" game, and that adult games are magically good, that we see quality games like Pikmin and Windwaker suffer, while Black Ops, a game I've never heard a single good thing about from anyone who plays or owns it, sells 12 million copies.

Hopefully the impending pop of the "AAA" bubble will thin the heard a bit.

@Experimental, A-fucking-men.

Don't get me wrong, I love a violent action game as much as the next guy, but conversely I also love bright colourful games.

I have to say that there is nothing mature and 'mature' games, maturity isn't boobs, guns and blood, maturity is about having an adult, as in, 'grown up', perspective.

There is nothing adult, or mature, or grown up, about 90% of the games self styled 'hardcore' gamers 'fap' over.

Bunch of fucking teenagers.

Still, I'll leave them to their torture porn whilst I have fun playing Mario Kart, before enjoying some space opera thank to Mass Effect and before bed I'll read some Dostoevsky, or possibly watch Adventure Time. Like mature people are able to do without harming their childish sense of self worth.

Yes. In fact, Sony has been copying Treehouse for at least three years now.

I'm gonna need a new external HD dedicated to just games if everyone starts doing this in subsequent E3s
