Objectively having a better resolution and framerate doesn't make a game look better tho, art direction which is subjective is another thing. But overall presentation is another. The Naughty Dog trailer looks like CGI, many people do not believe it's running in real time. If the game is in fact running in real time, then one can assume it's at a level comparable to CGI, I have yet to see anyone say Crysis 3 which does look good, looks like CGI.

please define "overall presentation" presentation then

let's see if your definition is neither that of "numbers" or art direction.

I don't know the work behind the UC4 trailer nor the technical details so I can't really say what makes it look as good as it does to me. In MY opinion it looks clear and cut above everything else I've seen, as it the presentation looks like CGI, Idk whether that's on the technical side or art style side, because I have yet to play the game. But if those are in-game graphics, depsite only being 1080P 60FPS with a realistic art style, it looks better than anything I've ever seen before. The texture work, the lighting, the animations etc all look superb.

so you can't define an "overall presentation" that would be something more than the combination of art direction or "numbers"?

I'll just say this now. I have a PC that can play Crysis 3 max on 1080p. it's doesn't look like CGI. No game on PC currently looks like CGI. UC4 on the other hand actually looks like CGI. But the real issue is if the final game would have the quality of this trailer.

I expect better looking PC games soon since we are in a new gen now.

character animations, texture work, atmosphere and etc has nothing to do with "numbers' nor art style, rather than overall presentation and talent.

In terms of animations though. I haven't seen any game that has toped last of us or UC3 yet on any platform.

The game won't be on my preferred gaming system.

So, of course it can never be the best looking game upon its release.

you cite three caracteristics that are exactly the results of "numbers" and art style

it seems pretty clear to me that you keep validating my point

Nope, Goat Simulator with mods will be!

Crysis 3 maxed out has that place probably until crytek wants it x'D

And there are many more like Battlefield 4, Hard Reset, The Witcher 3 if it launches before...

Now if we don't count PC and we talk about consoles, than yes it will be the best looking console game to date.

Very misleading stuff you have said here. Especially saying that PS4/X1 Gpus are beefy. This alone is one of the most misinformed statements I've seen anyone say so far. Both gpus are extremely weak, the ps4 uses a modified Radeon 7870 gpu. That definitely isn't beefy. With respect to DX, AMD has Mantle. M$ has DX12 both which are the same as low level apis found in consoles.

Your perception of what you feel looks good is limited in spectrum. Due to the fact that what makes a game good graphically is quite broad. You can't expect a mmorpg to look like Crysis 3 since the game is generally pushing around many many more npcs than what you will find in a fps. Gw2 is praised for its graphics initially but technically speaking the character models aren't even better than U2. But the standards and requirements are different since the genre is different.

Get more info before discussing graphics. They are pretty decent GPUs. You are affirming that they are weak based only on superficial data like TFlops count, while most GPUs with much higher raw performance simply use two GPUs togheter that can't deliver all that performance because of parallel computing issues. Mantle? We don't know nothing about it yet, it doesn't have any concrete results to show. Honestly, I don't believe on it. If someone would make an API to beat DX, it would be NVidia, since they have much more software expertise (let's face it, AMD graphics driver are way worse than NVidia and NVidia creates a lot of new SDKs and techs while AMD basically doesn't push any new tech and simply play catch up and price games). DX12 is dedicated only to reduce the draw call overhead basically, so it isn't in the same level as console low level APIs, they are just fixing a bad implementation they were using before. You are completely misinformed about what a graphics API is or simply are believing in the PR MS did about DX12.

Of course, graphics are related to the genre. But Crysis 3 pushes graphics simply being a corridor shooter and that makes things pretty easy.
