Forums - Nintendo - I like that EAD Tokyo is doing something low key (Captain Toad)

In an industry where everything seems to be either massive "AAA" blockbusters or $10 indie games, it's nice to see a major developer doing something in the middle; an elegantly simple little game with not afraid to hold back on the bombastic spectacle yet still be high quality and polished.

I think it could actually be a dark horse competitor for one of the year's best Wii U games, given EAD Tokyo's impeccable track record.

Just like Child of Light. There should definetely be more AA games

I really love everything Nintendo has shown this year and i am sad for my wallet come this fall.

Captain Toad is going to be a fantastic game and i hope they do more of these type of spinoffs.

I feel like Nintendo are one of few publishers who can get away with these things though. They have such a great, large and dedicated fanbase that games like this can sell enough to make quite a.nice profit.

I like it, they only need more. Begining of the year I said they should do something similar. It just depends how they price it.

This game is the only holiday title I will get.

Honestly if I stopped reading here and hadn't seen the thread title, you could just as easily have been talking about Splatoon, and you're right either way.

EAD Tokyo does low key stuff on the regular though. NES Remix 1 & 2, and I'm pretty sure they're behind Flipnote Studio. That's three games in the past year.

Is it confirmed that this is done by EAD Tokyo? I mean, to me it seems like this is a game that could very well be handed off to some small B-tier team, with some general management/direction from some of the EAD Tokyo guys. They already have the assets/engine etc. from 3D World.

I don't believe for a second they're devoting what is one of their AAA upper top-tier teams to such a small, niche title.

Game looks amazing, and great fun, by the way!

They said in the Treehouse event that it was by EAD Tokyo. And I doubt a B-tier team could replicate the quality of EAD Tokyo's work.

I'm sure only a smaller team is doing this game. I'm sure that a larger chunk of the main team is probably hard at work on the next whatever (Mario?) game of the future.

I have ton say Captain Toad was a unexpectingly nice surprise Can't wait to play it
