Well, with that art style they're certainly not trying to cater to western (mainstream) tastes.

I disagree. I think we in the west disliked cartoon graphics about 10 years ago, now we have moved up to "meh" or "kinda cool" on it. That being said, this game is a whole lot more uniquely stylistic than a typical cartoon looking zelda game, which I think will and is appealing to American gamers specifically. I know nothing about the Europeans/Canadians though.

Yeah when I saw the artstyle I immediately thought they were trying to appeal to the Japanese fans again. I think this one will sell really well relative to WiiU sales of course. The anime artstyle and the push for the Musou fans with Hyrule Musou should really help. It's also that open style world that sold well in Japan, all it needs it advertising.

Even in the old days Zelda was too western for the Japanese. Real time combat, open world to explore, no convoluted, overly dramatic storyline and sulking characters with severe emotional problems.

Even on the Wii and DS the Zelda games sold poorly. The only way Zelda will be popular in Japan is if Nintendo licenses it out to Square and we get Final Zelda XXXVIII: now with even LONGER corridors!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

You do realize that the Zelda games of the old days are the bestselling ones in Japan, right? After all, there's a sales chart in the original post.

Yes I know, and my point was that even in the old days the "bestselling" Zeldas didn't really sell all that much.  The original LoZ is ranked the 13th best selling NES game on VGChartz.  THIRTEENTH.  Vollyball sold more.  Mahjong sold more.  Hell, GOLF sold more.

On the SNES, A Link To The Past, arguably the best Zelda ever, is ranked 25th all time in Japan.  TWENTY, EFFING, FIFTH!!!

Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker are both 4th for their respective consoles in Japan, but that's probably more due to the limited library and install base of the consoles.

And on the Wii, the best selling Nintendo console of all time, neither Zelda came anywhere close to cracking the 1 million mark, and both are well out of the top 25 all time games.

Doubt it. This art style won't change anything there. It's just meant to look nice.

I am sure it will do well but I do think it will be the lowest selling Zelda not cause of the poor sales of the wiiU (although that is still a factor) but cause of the art style! I think it will be like WW all over again

wind waker is the 6th best selling zelda and no one (the vast majority) is complaining about  the zelda U artstyle.
