@people saying the combat was the best part of FFXIII. I disagree as it was mostly Auto battle. The soundtrack was probably the best, even bad games can have a good soundtrack.

Actually, this is a perfect example of what I was talking about. The auto battle was completely optional, you can just switch it to manual. You don't see people hating on GTAV, Red Dead Redemption, Watch Dogs,  Metal Gear Solid V because of the auto-aiming option, do you?

Edit: In Watch Dogs you can't even turn the auto-aim off, only reduce its effect..

Not using auto-battle would usually end in you getting screwed, especially after switching paradigm.

Agreed, it is very useful at times and adds to the batte system, Like when the atb gauge is full, it wouldn't make sense to waste time on choosing commands manually. The battle system is great. The hate is eclipsing the good aspects of the games in the minds of the "fans".

I prefer XIII over X. To me X is when the series stopped being special and became average. I stopped caring about the characters and story and the combat was just okay. By time XIII came around I had low expectations and found the combat much more satisfying (have no idea how people claim can just leave it on auto and never do anything) and the characters were more interesting to me, story wise both were average. I also hated blitz ball and am surprised so many enjoyed it.

Every FF has its legion of hypocrites or hipsters that like to critizise something that is considering "popular". I hate that kind of thinking. FF X was a wonderful game back then, and is still one of the most popular games in the saga. It's just another victim like FF VII, FF VIII and FF XII, that were bashed by a vocal minority that not represent the reality.

In my opinion, there is no bad mainline FF games, just ones that make something better than others. "Final Fantasy is dead" is something I've hearing since FF VIII, and every mainline game since then has been maginificent in its own way.

FF tries to change the formula with every game, and some people, nostalgic and conservative people, maybe don't like changes, but this mentality is what I like the most from FF. Every new FF have something old, and something new that makes every game fresh.

For me, FFXIII graphics, setting, soundtrack, battle system and mythology were top notch in FF history. I liked the progression of the characters trough the story. Probably most people hate them because it seems, people don't finish games nowadays, and probably they just played the first few hours of the game.

I can agree with the fact that FF XIII lacks better customization and sidequests or extra content. Grand pulse could have been even more richer in content.

But I enjoyed the game a lot. It's the most spectacular FF to date, with a gorgeous soundtrack and an intense system battle versus the hardest enemies in the game. The only thing I can say I really enjoyed more in FF X was the story. To me, FF X have the best ending of any FF.

I've learned long time ago, to not listen to opinions of very popular games on the internet, because you will always find detractors. Even some people is bashing games like The Last of Us!!!....and nobody will convince me that this game is bad. The same I feel about every mailine FF.

QFT. I was about to make a long post then I saw this. Seriously folks, no mainline FF title is "bad" and yes FFXIII>FFXIII-2

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Absolutely, it's probably my favourite battle system.

FFX had:

-Towns (HUGE difference)

-Backtracking

-Branching paths

-Underwater levels

-Puzzles

-Side-missions (beyond hunts)

-Collectibles

-Mini games

-Secret areas

-A more customizable level-up system

-Interesting NPCs to talk to

-A comprehensible (even good) story

-Better characters...

It really can't be compared to FFXIII.

quoted for truth

The game is a "hallway," but that's just a symptom of a much bigger problem, which is that the game is almost completely devoid of depth.

I haven't played FFX, but I can't imagine it could be as simplistic and shallow as FFXIII. There are almost no meaningful choices to be made for pretty much the entire game. It's almost boring...

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

Slightly hypocritical yes. ONLY if their complaint on FF13 was purely based on the linearity. Final Fantasy games have always been very linear. The main difference is that they used to do a pretty good job of hiding it. FF10 did a bit worse a job of hiding it. And FF13 did even worse.
10 is very linear but it doesn't really feel like it because it's regularly broken up with slightly more open areas and branching paths. Without the towns, FF10 would probably be quite bad too.
