Forums - Nintendo - Donkey kong country returns, Wii or 3DS?

Up until Mario kart 8 my game of the year so far has been Donkey kong tropical freeze. With its lush visuals, tight controls and amazing soundtrack it is platform game perfection. However, one of the few Wii games i didn't get around to playing was Retros original Donkey kong country returns, and after playing tropical freeze im keen to pick it up, but im not sure which platform. Now i know they are essentially the same game but there are a few things to factor in...which versions has the best controls, will i find the Wii version ugly on my hdtv after seeing the beautiful visuals on tropical freeze in its hd glory, does it look better on the smaller screen and does the 3D add some pizzazz, does the 3 Ds version have extra features. Please assist me in this difficult decision vg charterz.

I haven't played either version, so I wouldn't know.

If you have a HD TV any Wii game looks horrible, so I would go for the 3DS version. It has some extra content as well. Though the Wii version probably performs better.

I think so. I read somewhere that the Wii version is 60fps, while the 3DS version is 30fps.

I don't think you could go wrong with either decision, so I'd just get the one you can find a better deal on.

I have both. I'd say 3DS version is better. Has like 7 or 8 new levels and better controls. There is also an easy option so it isn't so difficult...

I think the 3DS version is also cheaper, but I could be wrong.

I didn't play the Wii version unfortunately, I'd prob say get it on 3DS, it's the same game isn't it? Same levels, visuals from what I've heard hold up on 3DS, plus you have Tropical Freeze on WiiU for your home console experience :)

i have both and i have 100%ed both of them. there is no difference besides the fact that the wii version is much harder. it is really up to whether or not you would rather play with a screen in your hands right in front of your face or if you want to play on a big screen.

if you get the wii version, i would recommend using the wiimote and nunchuck. if you havent played many wii games, it may take a little bit getting used to how the platforming works with the motion sensing, but once you get it down, it is super easy to use.

If you get the 3DS version Nintendo will make more money! Also it has a few additional levels. But it's barely 30 fps while the Wii version is 60 fps.

Edit: The Wii version won't look very ugly if you use a Wii with component cables (depends on your TV, I never play Wii titles on my Wii U because they're much jaggier than on the Wii). DKCR is a really well-made game, and if you like Tropical Freeze you'll also like Returns. TF has better music, but Returns has many lovely remixes of the old DKC game too.

Yep.

I managed to miss it on Wii. One of the very few AAA Wii games that I didn't buy, actually. So when a friend at work let me play it on her 3DS, it was almost an instant "Must buy" for me. Can't tell you if it's better or worse. Some people have told me that the frame rate isn't up to Wii standards. It ran smooth enough for me. Probably can't go wrong with either version but I wholeheartedly recommend the 3DS version.

Wii; 60fps makes it more precise and smooth than the 3DS's 30fps.
