Forums - Sony - Borderlands 2 on Vita - Frame rate is a disaster!

I've heard quite a few people who played it saying that the frame rate drops are not that frequent and that the game as a whole is a lot of fun. We've seen countless times videos showing that a game was terrible, but they tend to be misleading as they show only one aspect of the game.

For example, DMC was criticized for bad frame rate and I don't remember it affecting my gameplay at all (I think the game is amazing as it is on ps3 - 9.5/10)

Only reason why Sony managed to convince them to release this on the Vita was to get a big named title on the system. Vita isnt their top priority and I'm sure this will have similar if not the same effects as that one Call of Duty game had for a short time.

I think a GT6 port would be as bad as this one though.

A GT6 port would be as bad... based on what? GT6 is less demanding on resources, which is why it runs so well on PS3.

The impact of GT6 on Vita would have ultimately been more signficant and its something the Vita needs.

While Borderlands 2 Vita is getting low scores because of the frame rate impacting gameplay. I haven't played DMC much on consoles, but I'll presume its dips aren't in the same ballpark.

Because if GT6 was to be ported to the Vita - it would get more flank and be the worst of the two versions. There will be some sort of downgrade in some way or even worse FPS. The PSP version of Gran Turismo didnt have a Career mode nor did it have the ability to upgrade the cars - and that was its main flaw. I cant imagine what it will be (if its the same) for a rushed port of GT6.

Sony should invest on newer titles of familiar IPs or newer IPs rather than focusing on ports of last gen systems.

This is a weak argument. Good Vita ports have well received critically, even if visually inferior to home consoles.

Some downgrades would be acceptable. The problem with Borderlands 2 isn't the downgrades, its the performance.

The PSP version of GT mode lacking a career mode or upgrading features had nothing to with the PSP. It was just a half assed game, period.

Why does a GT6 port have to be rushed? That's a project actually word putting effort in. If EA can do a quality port of NFS:Most Wanted on Vita, we can assume Sony can do the same with GT6. Look at the Most Wanted videos i posted above.

I don't think you got my point. I'm not trying to argue that the two games have similar frame drops. Instead, that a game can be fun despite such techincal issues. For some people who bought DMC for ps3 these issues were a deal breaker  and they bashed the game and said they traided it in and got the pc version. Others, like me didn't even notice them.

Similarly, there's a game called Little King's story on the psvita and the frame rate drops are insane. I notice them every time I play it. But the game is still fun and i'm gald I got it. I'm sure there are many people who would rather play borderlands on psvita with frame rate drops than a game like Sly Cooper that runs smoothly.

Again, for some they might be a dealbreaker and for others just a con. So, I don't think it was a bad decision as long as it pushed hardware sales. Though yes, it goes without saying that Sony should have made a gran turismo game for vita. Port or  not.

Whilst I am not defending the game, this video makes the frame-rate look far worse than it actually is. I have just started playing it myself and whilst the drops are there, it is far from unplayable. I am actually really enjoying myself.

Microsoft let Ryse out in that condition, so I guess these companies don't tend to make framerate as a priority. You were enjoying that game, no? Maybe this would OK when you actually play it too.

still getting the retail copy when. I get off work..I heard it plays better on the 1000 models..either way I'm getting rid of Valhalla knights 3 for bl2..everyone that's played it says it ain't that bad..ign and all those other fu Ker's just gave it a bad review

Oh please... this isn't a console war discussion and the dips in Ryse aren't as significant or consistant. Go look for analysis videos if you don't believe me.

DF recently did an analysis of the God of War ports on Vita. Those are PS2 games with significant frame rate issues on Vita. That seems odd, no?

Considering stuff like Elder Scrolls/Fallout get released in an absolute state for PS3 in terms of frame-rates, seems odd that Borderlands 2 is attracting such flak. It doesn't even run at a steady 30 on 360/PS3; there wasn't a chance in hell of it doing it on Vita.

What I suspect happened with this is that Iron Galaxy took on the project; realised somewhere down the line that it couldn't be done up to a standard that would review well/get analysed by Digital Foundry well and returned to Sony, who decided that it was better to release the game at all (since well... they had to) than to not bother.

And to be honest, that was the right decision. It's not ideal. People who play on high-end PC's have all the right in the world to complain about the framerate in this game and not buy it (yes, you got what I was going for with that comment - people who play on home consoles have less right to complain since the majority of games on them are riddled with frame drops).

There are, however, plenty of people out there who can stomach the poor performance of this, and for them it was worth getting the game out for than not bothering. Portable Borderlands you can play on the go and then copy the save back over to your PS3 when you get back home. It's not a massive market to reach, but it's nice for the people who are in that market.

I'm just impressed by how good the game looks. Seriously, the DF analysis made it look only a minor step down over PS360 to me (except in terms of ground textures, which were scaled back a little further). Maybe they should've chopped away at the graphics a bit more.
