Forums - Nintendo - Luigi's Death Stare is a Nintendo Selling Technic?

Did Nintendo purposely make a great game that people would notice and love? Yes. Is this marketing? Sort of.

Nintendo simply made the best game they could make. The free advertising is the public resonating with how well the game is made.

That's like asking if a pro athlete is there as a marketing technique. You have the player on your team because you believe he will help you win games.

I'd argue Mario Kart TV was included as a form of advertising, that's why the option to upload to Youtube is there. Given Nintendo haven't linked Miiverse with other social networks, it's a step forward for them to allow direct uploading to Youtube to one of Wii U's biggest releases yet.

Specific animations like Luigi's stares weren't put in because Nintendo knew they would lead to viral advertising, but they put mechanisms in the game that would make it easier for stuff like this to spread.

Exactly. They didn't plan this out, but hoped that some part of the game's experience, shared through the mechanism, would be able to capture public imagination.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Selling tactic? Probably. But I'm sure it's wasn't intentional of Nintendo to use it as a selling point. It's the fans that transform it into a meme and popularize it. If this is true, we might be seeing a new way of marketing to the masses. That, or I'm just saying nonsense.

Sorry Nintendo lucked out they are not that smart. If they were that smart the Wii U be leading the race atm and their be better support from 3rd parties.

This ^^^

Given that neither Sony or Microsoft have used YouTube for their video sharing/upload solutions it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo have some sort of deal in place leaving the much less popular Twitch for them.

I also wonder whether the PS4 and One would have video sharing/uploads at all if Nintendo's plans to have it hadn't leaked years ago (2010..? Can't remember) when we first heard that their new controller had a bloomin great big screen on it.

It's a shame that Nintendo have implemented their solution last despite them coming up with the original idea, most people probably don't remember that happening years ago.

Do you mean technique?
