Forums - Sales Discussion - Watch_Dogs sold over 4 millions units during its first week

4 million... sold-through? Da fuq?

That is insane if true. Not sure Ubi is using the term correctly.

Edit: well, it seems they used NPD and Gfk data so it IS sold to consumers. Yup, insane numbers.

Great, now we'll start getting a new Watch Dog game every year.

Congrats on Ubi's success tho!

Its bittersweet to me :/ good just that a new ip sells so as to encourage others to make more.

Im a worried about publishers starting to use enchanced graphics in their demos because it helped build hype with this title and there wasnt a substantial enough backfire when the final product was released

And BTW, TLOU became the fastest-selling new IP ever last year. Less than a year later, WD breaks the record again (albeit on more platforms).

Goes to show that there is space for successful new IPs in this industry.

Like MK8 this is of course shipped+digital, still absolutely crazy numbers.

This and MK and TLOU last year really makes you wonder why publishers don't put out more games in the spring and summer.

Edit: Maybe not shipped, the press release says sold-through...that's even more insane.

But Nintendo said sold...

There's a difference between sold and sold through

When a company says "sold", then you should take that as shipped to retailers (cause that is sold for them) unless they specify otherwise.

And one way to specify otherwise is by saying "sold through" which basically means sold to customers.

Again, could be a mistake from Ubisofts' PR guys though.

When Sony said they sold 1 million PS4s in 24 hours, no one interpreted that as "shipped". Same with the WD numbers. No one is saying "Oh, these are shipped numbers." However, with Mario Kart 8 - oh no, of course not. There's no way Nintendo sold that many. Yeah, these numbers are shipped. Yep. Now I can sleep better at night.

News like this also tell us that gaming is in no shape or form dying, which is great.

Only in Japan is gaming doomed :P

Yes, and its for only Home consoles.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

HOLY FUCK. that is ALOT! PS4 version could be at 2 million!

ps4 ww will be more then 50% of the total watch dogs sales

Puh, that's what you get from a big game breaking sales records? Why so negative?

All Watch Dogs' massive success tells me, is that the game market is alive and kicking, this doesn't mean that smaller games can't be financially viable still.

I'm not saying the game industry is dead. What I'm saying is that games like Watch Dogs show that companies need to go for insanely big numbers in order to be profitable, and like I said, this will mean less games (not counting indie of course) each year

Now I get what you're trying to say, I was kinda confused because you correlated this to Watch Dogs' sales success. Yeah, games will become more expensive this gen, but I'm positive that there'll still be room for the medium sized games to exist in this market.

Where is BenV to give us an idea of which version sold the most?

PS4 > XB1 > X360 > PS3 > PC

Wow, I thought it would sell best on last gen consoles. O_o

Now for the question many want to know, if you don't mind...

Is it PS4>XB1 or PS4>>XB1?

.

not surprsing since it was advertasied as a ps game

Not only this game, every game sells approx 40% more on PS4 than Xbone.
