Forums - Microsoft - Surface Pro 3 Is the Best Everything Device Ever Made

I agree that the surface pro isn't an ideal gaming device. But, the 14 inch laptop isn't either. The 14 inch laptop doesn't have a touch screen and removable keyboard. It also weighs twice as much. What you compare the surface pro to is just the laptop capabilities. If I wanted a gaming laptop it would have at least a 17 inch screen. I have a Vaio 17 laptop that now collects dust that I used to game on, but that's another kind of experience. When I want to game more intensely, I hook my surface to a screen and keyboard/mouse. point is, unless you buy a $2k+ laptop, you are compromising something.

The hybrid concept was good...however it doesn't seem like people are going for it.

MS will probably shift their strategy should the Surface 3 fail to spur on sales.

The ultrabook has had somewhat of a resurgence and tablets are still going from strength to strength especially with the mini sizes.

Engadget nailed it in their opening paragraph for the Surface 3 review:

"It didn't last long, but there was a moment earlier this week when I was sure Microsoft would unveil its own laptop. At a press event, Surface chief Panos Panay took the stage to remind the reporters in attendance how they once said tablets would make laptops obsolete. A quick scan around the room revealed rows of journalists, all typing on Ultrabooks -- including the MacBook Air, no less. For a moment, it seemed like Panay was conceding defeat."

MS instead unveiled the Surface 3...I think they need to give up on the concept unfortunately or keep it but also expand into the traditional ultrabook and tablet markets.

You just can't appreciate the surface unless you have one yourself. Instantly blew ipads and notebooks out of the water. The price of the Pro 3 is steep, but it truly is the best device of its kind.

I mostly agree, it's just that they should dumb the kickstand for the clam shell design and include the keyboard. Not too much to ask for.

Wouldnt that make it a laptop?

It's not as good a laptop as a Mac Book Pro and it's not as good a tablet as an iPad. It's a short sided product for short sided consumers. It's a half assed product that tries to do both things but at half the quality.

Until developers tackle the hurdle of using a digital keyboard, consumers are better off owning two products or just doing their homework and picking which ever product serves their needs best.

how good is the battery life? the only thing that matters is battery life and I remember surface devices were really the worst in that regard out of the high end ultrabooks.

The hybrid product is always a short lived product and the companies that release them know this. Remember those huge, CRT hdtv's of the early 2000's? Remember EDTV?

When change happens, companies know there is a small niche that drag their feet so they release products for those people. Right now, tablets work for 95% of the population but that other 5% are vocal and need their physical keyboard's and flash etc. That's what the Surface is for and why it exists. MS know's we're transitioning and they also know that a product like this will be obsolete in a few years when regular tablets take over but they don't care because they'll make a little bit of money along the way.

People need to accept that physical keyboards and traditional computers are dying and adapt. The 1-10 year old demograph can already type like pros using an iPad because that's what they've grown up with. Us older users can do the same if we all just stopped bitching for 10 minutes and make the leap.

Not getting a 3, but I love my Surface Pro 2.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
