X1 isn't an American centric console (Sony have beaten them in US all months but December - low stocks). X1 is a very microsoftian centric console, it will sell well for people that like ms and their propositions and experiences the others are free to take, and a lot of them were taken by Sony with consumer centric ps4.

Well, it certainly isn't European centric. Watching TV through it doesn't even work properly in Europe due to the console being 60HZ and European TV emisions 50HZ. And that was in theory the whole raison d'etre for the Xbox One. That says a lot about how much thought MS put into Europe.

It might not be American centric in the sense that it fulfills American needs... because they failed. They thought they would fulfill those needs. But they certainly didn't even try to create a console that would appeal to worldwide audiences. I honestly don't know what they were thinking.

Do this apply to programation through HDMI? I don't think that should be a problem since x1 works on the television.

And I totally agree that they certainly tried to fill the needs of US costumers and forgot WW as always. But it seems they don't know their audience really well.

I was talking about the HDMI pass-through, yes. It doesn't work properly in Europe, it stutters:

this is what they were thinking. people can deny it all they want but this parody video actually paints a very strong picture of microsofts original vision for the Xbox One.

Man some people seeing this as a personal victory is a new low. The talk about how European buyers are more neutral and only buy the superior PS product ( AKA Xbox One sucks) is even more false. Europe is less neutral than the US, most people here don't even know what an Xbox is and think a console is a Playstation. Most people won't even consider a Xbox allthough it has some great games with more to come. Playstation selling more has to do with the European mindset, not with how much better Playstation is than Xbox ( and that's your own perception, enough people think the contrary)

While I might not agree 100% with the entire post, this bolded sentence is absolutely true.

For the last 10-15 years, an average European (not a gamer, but just an average person) calls any console Playstation. Those a bit older, who have heard of gaming in the late 80s, early 90s (at the time when gaming wasn't somainstream and was still perceived as child's play) still refer to them as Nintendo.

XBox just doesn't have brand recognition or any presence in people's minds. If they want to play a video game, once they go to the store, they see a Playstation on the shelf and don't even take notice of an XBox sitting right next to it.

Most stores that sell games and other entertainment will have about 2 acres of shelf space with PS games, and a small, poorly lit corner with green boxes, usually hidden behind NDS and PSP games.

P.S. Oh, and all handheld consoles are still called Gameboys :)

I agree some people are going to far in this thread, but the ratio has gone from 2:1 last gen to 8:1 this gen, so dont undersell it as European Mindset either.

The only reason the 360 sold what it did in Europe was thanks to price ( and ps3 being so expensive) and an earlier release. Xbox 1 price is higher now so people buy their first option again, the Playstation. Combine that with far more agressive marketing ( and almost no X1 marketing) and you get this result

Correct, I have even noticed big newspapers making this mistake, calling consoles Playstations and when mentioning Xbox they think it's a Nintendo console ( this really happened). The dominance of Playstation in Europe has more to do with brand recognition instead of being an superior product

And why do you think they ignore xbox and buy playstation? They are loyal to japan and enemies of us? The neutrality people are saying regards nationalism that favor sony and nintendo in japan or ms in usa. The only appliable bias you can put is that ww people recognize japanese brand as durable and quality  made against breakable american products. I assure you in brazil altough a lot of people would like to live in usa for products we preffer japanese cars and eletronics than american because of quality.

You could read my post above yours... This has nothing to do with a product being American or Japanese. Europe doesn't care about that. It's all about the perception of a brand. Many Europeans just don't know Xbox, and that has more to do with Microsoft not marketing it than making a bad product

uhh they just announced the kinectless xbo for june... If i was waiting on it to come down, june would be when i would jump on it. this is premature, much like the GOTG for titanfall.

Microsoft announced the Kinectless bundle on the 13th. This is for the week of the 17th. Didn't literally EVERYONE expect sales to drop for May because of that?

I think a lot of people know about xbox. They just despise it after 360, RROD, and no support since 2011...
