Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo still has the casual support, they just need to heavily promote it this holiday and get that one big game that they will go crazy over!

I agree, but I think Nintendo needs more than just MK to drag casuals attention away from smartphones. But yeah, it's possible.

Yep.

The sales of Wii Fit U and the non-impact of Wii Sports Club say no. Wii Party U only has decent sales because it was force bundled with every Wii U in Japan for the last six months.

NSMBU is selling to the same ol' Nintendo fanbase and has fallen off massively from NSMB Wii's sales.

since when have Mario games been casual? They are games that are casual friendly but are not exclusively casual games, many hardcore gamers and Nintendo fans in general enjoy Mario.

But to be on the sucject of this thread, New Super Mario Bros. appeals to both casual gamers and the Nintendo fanbase, and there's a bundle for them. It's probably just the good deal that's selling the games.

not as big as wii, but if some complex games profit selling 100k, why not make these simple cheap developing games?
even if it sells porly compared to core games, they can still profit.

im somehow impressed with wii fit u. it sold 20k first week, and now it is at 300k!

also, figurines can fit very well in some casual games.

i think that can be interesting to see casual games ninty will release, and its selling performance.

They ( per usual this gen) did it all wrong.

Wii Fit U was given away as a free demo for months. Plus you can still play the original two on the Wii U via Wii back wards compatibility. There is not much reason to buy anymore.

As for Wii sports club? We want a or Casuals want a retail version. A full game like Wii sports resort was. I loved both those games, but would not touch Sports club with a ten foot pole. This hurt their casual cred. I hope they realize this. If casuals do not know a game exists, then how are they going to get excited for it? They are not the ones going on game websites to see what games the Wii U has digitally. If they do not see it at a game store or department store, they will not go hunting for it, or care.

All of Nintendo's touch generations/casual centric games have massively underperformed this gen

Nintendogs + cats

Nintendo Land

Wii Fit U

Wii Sports Club

Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics

Brain Training/Concentration Training (full on bomb).

It's not just Nintendo either ... casual/motion gaming aside from the Just Dance series (which is declining every year in sales) has fallen off a cliff. Kinect Sports 3 bombed too.

The truth is, if you're not really a serious gamer and you're happy with simplistic gaming experiences that use simply interfaces and can be played in short bursts -- smartphones/tablets simply just run circles around consoles/dedicated handhelds these days.

That player doesn't care that his phone doesn't have a d-pad or eight buttons on it. He/she cares more that the games are 99 cents/free on a device that is far more convienant for them to use. A person carries their smartphone with them everywhere. Again traditional consoles/handhelds can't compete.

Nintendo needs to stop advertising Mario Kart 8 with Wiimotes. They need to be using pro controllers. One of my friends interested in Mario Kart 8 asked me if it was coming out for the Wii. They're shooting themselves in the foot.

the problem is that we all know that but nintendo doesnt. Needs regime change.

"Anyways, on a weekly basis, these two games. NSMB U and NSLU sell higher on the US chart than 3D World."

...this might have something to do with both games being heavily bundled with the console, just a thought...

Mario is not casual.

It's accessible "hardcore"
