3DS can sell very well only if it has Big games from popular IP's and it won't get good sales for the average games unlike Home consoles in West. I think 3DS can't do any better in west this time due to people in the west used to Mobiles and Tablets for Portable gaming for their needs and they don't need dedicated gaming console unless if it has the game they want to play only(so sales rise on these games and flat out on regular games), that's the one of the main reason why PS Vita having horrible sales.

But, Japan is opposite where the people need Portables and dont need Consoles(want only to play the games they need but not for regular gamess). So, 3DS/PS Vita having good sales in Japan compared to West.

I think I agree.

They'll probably want to squeeze everything out of the western markets before replacing it completely. They'll also probably will still come out a third redesign before that, like a 3DSHD (with sharper, better screens). Overall, it's still powerful and feature-rich enough to last a while longer.

I think they'll want to wait until the WiiU's life is over, around 2017, to simultaneously release both a new handheld and a new console. Considering their talks of combining the divisions, the two pieces of hardware would basically be the same and games would be cross-compatible. The handheld will probably be a 'lite' version of their home-console. That's what I predict anyway .

I do not think there is a future for Nintendo without the smartphone market. The US / Europe sales show this very well, especially compared to GBA. Nintendo should release a smartphone with real hardware controls if it wants to succeed in the mobile market, 3DS and Vita prove that handheld gaming has no future in the western market. The next system can only sell worse if it is not smartphone related.
