What was the profit with the PS2, expected to be broken?

Well I don't remember the numbers... but I'm certain some member will have the picture with the estimated profit per generation for the big 3 (Nintendo is ahead of all). I would estimate something around 10B total.

Oh yeah, I know that pic. I think Playstation lost most of the PS2 profits with PS3.

LOL @ no profit from Xbox...

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

it took PS3 around 4 years to be profitable (HW). PS4 took 6 months. lol

Yes PS3 at best didn't burn all the PS2 money. But pretty much close to it. Xbox is a sad case on that.

Thank you very much.

I just hope they don't forget to give us value if they want to chase profits. Increase the value of PS+ to get more subscribers not charge subscribers more money.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

Makes sense. This is why I doubt Sony will discontinue the PSVita. With its current strong numbers in Japan, and heavy online integration, I doubt that they are loosing money on it

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Hopefully they don't turn PS into a streaming service.

This is great news for Sony. There were already reports of the PS4 possibly having its internals changed to reduce manufacturing costs even further (http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/05/21/new-ps4-and-ps3-models-possibly-outed-by-certification-request-filed-by-sony/ ). I'm quite surprised that profitability in hardware has been achieved so quickly and it's good because Sony has one less thing to worry about.
