Forums - General - Anyone here watch Supernatural?

Honestly, it's one of the best series out right now. It's definitely up there with Game of Thrones. Maybe even better.

Thoughts on the season finale?

I've never heard of it. What's it about?

I've heard it's good, but I didn't watch it early on so getting into it now would be a chore. I wish American TV seasons were shorter tbh, 20+ episodes is too much for serial shows it means any over-arching story arcs take too long. British TV series seem to make shows that seem longer than they are (6 episodes per 'season') I think by packing a similar amount of quality storytelling into a shorter space. I would prefer if it was more common to have something in-between with about 12 episodes but still with an American size budget.

One of the reasons I didn't get into it 8-9 seasons ago is I much prefer supernatural stories from the point of view of the supernatural being, or with one being an ally/sidekick to the main protagonist, and as I understand it the premise of Supernatural is that they hunt the beings (that said if it has lasted 9 seasons I have to assume they have had multiple and maybe some long running allies who are supernatural)

It's as the name says. It deals with everything Supernatural from vampire and werewolves to demons and angels and everything inbetween. I would tell you but that would spoil it. As for the story telling it's top notch.

Alot of the Supernatural beings are main characters so it's pretty pointless for one to be THE main character, don't worry they get their screentime. As for the length of it, what can I say? If you want a consistent and well panned out story then it's coming to take time and character development. This is why most movies fail in story telling. You can't tell a sensible story in 1-2 hours.

All that being said I'd honestly recommend it.

It's not the supernatural screentime that makes a difference but the 'side' they are on. Were there any supernatural allies of the protagonists in season 1? I would presume for any story with angels & demons that they are diametric, so the two brother hunters occasionally have angels on their side helping them hunt demons.

I'm sure I would enjoy it if I got into it... but that's part of my problem with the season length, 9 seasons is probably over 140 hours of entertainment, and there are a number of other programs I am wanting to watch too.

I do agree with you about films though, it's hard to put any kind of complexity into a story if it has to be resolved in a 2 hour film, which is why most films just resort to extending action scenes that might take up 1-2 pages of a book so they take up half the screentime.

Actually I don't think there were any Supernatural allies in season 1 but that was when the story was just getting started and the basic story was being explained. As the for the angels and demons I can't really say much about them without spoiling it but they ocasionally work with the angels and rarely the demons when they're in certain situations.

You don't have to watch it all in one go, even though I watched 7 season at the time in a few day lol

I enjoyed it; Supernatural progresses from fully self-contained episodes, each facing a different creature, to a wide story-arc, incorporating elements from previous episodes. It really picks up towards season 5 and I'd recommend anyone to watch it. However, I stopped watching after the season 5 finale.

I believe it was originally intended to finish after 5 seasons and everything was wrapped up very nicely by then. It's rare for a quality show to end nowadays, let alone end well, and I'd rather not destroy it by watching until they jump the shark (I assume this has happened by now).

Are any of the seasons on Netflix? If so I'm willing to give it a look.

Actually it gets better beyond that. Season 5 didn't really rap anything up. There were still questions and characters that we hadn't seen.

It is.
