I enjoyed it; Supernatural progresses from fully self-contained episodes, each facing a different creature, to a wide story-arc, incorporating elements from previous episodes. It really picks up towards season 5 and I'd recommend anyone to watch it. However, I stopped watching after the season 5 finale.
I believe it was originally intended to finish after 5 seasons and everything was wrapped up very nicely by then. It's rare for a quality show to end nowadays, let alone end well, and I'd rather not destroy it by watching until they jump the shark (I assume this has happened by now).
