He didn't say "most" he said "a lot".  And he's right.

not really, over 90% of 360/ps3 games are 720p.

Fantastic games, technically weak console.

We will all be buying the game it looks utterly brilliant especially with the free game offer but clearly it is running on weak hardware with many compromises made to get it working. I don't understand the 59fps issue and expect this to be sorted by a patch. I'm not disappointed its not 1080p 60fps because I never believed it would be to be honest even when eurogamer confirmed it was I just didn't believe it. It's still a last gen console in performance overall although this game clearly plays to the strengths of the wii u design.

Still an artistically very beautiful game with great gameplay.

Or in other words: Digital Foundry confirms Eurogamer full of shit.

Anyone remember this?

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=182665

Turns out skeptics were right all along as the review from Digital Foundry confirms:

Starting from the top, then, there has been a surprising amount of confusion surrounding the resolution of the game with some sources even suggesting a native 1080p presentation. We can finally put that rumour to rest right here and confirm that Mario Kart 8 instead operates at what is effectively the console's standard 1280x720. Of course, considering the quality of the visuals, this can hardly be considered a disappointment especially when other developers are struggling to hit 1080p consistently on more powerful hardware. What is surprising, however, is the complete omission of anti-aliasing in any form. At the very least, Nintendo has previously utilised a basic edge-smoothing algorithm across its Wii U titles and such a feature could have demonstrably improved image quality without a serious performance hit. As it stands, however, we're left with a heavily aliased presentation filled with obvious stair-stepping and pixel-crawling artefacts throughout most scenes. Busier areas can even result in a loss of detail to the point of reducing visibility.

Discuss!

It is 720p and 60 fps in online and time trials just not against cpu... durp lol

I saw the pics and vids, the game looks great.

A huge complaint in the 360/ps3 gen? Really? I saw very few complaints of resolution for last gen games. Most people didn't even know that a lot of the games were sub 720 last gen and still looked great.

http://images.eurogamer.net/2013/articles//a/1/6/7/9/4/0/9/3.bmp.jpg this looks great? and yes iy was a huge complaint on neogaf. they would alway see vieos on youtube with tha game looking amazing, then when they got it on home on a 40 inch+ tv the iamge quailty and jaggies were always a huge let down.

I still think the game looks great, most of that stuff doesn't bother me. I play on 55" tv, and sure I notice the jaggies on a lot of games but it doesn't stop me from enjoying them. I'm not looking for photo realism in a game, that is never the main selling point for me. I like to play games for fun!

I love good graphics just as much as the next guy but it's more about the gameplay and how much fun I have playing the game. I still enjoy minecraft and have been playing it for over 2 years now. Graphics, no matter how good or bad is never a let down to me.

But I know there are gamers that only look for eye candy and base their experience with a game on how good it looks. I do agree that if it had less jaggies and ran at native 1080p the game would be technically better and probably more pleasing to the eyes. I can over look all that if the game is fun.

most games were not sub hd on 360/ps3 games.

He didn't say "most" he said "a lot".  And he's right.

not really, over 90% of 360/ps3 games are 720p.

EDIT: Nvm, just saw your post above, although calling him a dumbass just for asking for proof is uncalled-for.

EDIT 2:  Sorry, I didn't notice what he said first... :/

The same people complaining about 720p and no aa, are the the same people praising 900p on more modern and expensive hardware, that can't even push a game that's on the ps360 at 1080p. Just stop, please.

Are you really trying to compare 720p with no AA to 900p with AA? Heck, just comparing AA on and off is a big difference to many (perhaps even bigger than 720p to 900p). Regardless, if you think people are praising 900p go read the Watch Dogs thread. The vast majority of people (PS4 gamers included) that take an interest in such topics were disappointed by it.

It's especially disappointing when considering that inFamous, arguable a much better looking game than WD, managed 1080p/30 - 40fps while also utilizing SMAA T2x (without a doubt the most effective post processing AA method we've seen thus far from the next-gen consoles).
