Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Will Be a Success, and here's why

The historical sales on Nintendo consoles show that Nintendo's home console sales have almost always chiefly depended on Nintendo 1st party sales.

(Check out my new thread, and especially this post)

Also, keep in mind that the 3DS is still doing very well. Sure it's not doing nearly as well as the DS, but Nintendo's portable line has always thrived. There really is no valid reason why Nintendo can't propagate this success to their home consoles (that's what I'm arguing with Zekkyou here).

I agree that Nintendo's first party is a major selling point, but they can only do so much. The N64 was first party heaven and it still sold around 35 million.

Great Nintendo first party on home console assures about 15 million sales I'd say (just a guesstimate) to go beyond that they either need to make it a 3rd party console in addition to the first party (kind of like NES and SNES) or they can try to make it appeal to more people than just average gamers (like the Wii).

I feel like option one would not work very well, it takes too much work and they'd still be competing with MS and Sony for the same market. Option two is great, but it's not as easy as it sounds.

As for propagating the success of their handhelds to their home consoles. I don't know I feel like the two have different audiences.

hehe. It's possible. But then GTA6 would be considered not cool enough and too kiddy.

@Uncharted. I agree, Nintendo doesn't compete with Uncharted or TLOU. That strengthens my point. Nintendo is not directly competing with Sony and MS.

As much as 3rd parties help PS and XB, they really are secondary and also disposable when it comes to Nintendo consoles. You should honestly take a look at this post in my other thread.

Probably

The Wii was somewhat of an exception though for home consoles. Nintendo's games have always appealed quite a lot to the "casual" market. That combined with the Wii's general appeal to them was the perfect combo.

It's the core market that need the variation brought by a combination of 1st and 3rd parties, which is the only market we really have now that the casuals have run off to play flappy turd bird ¬_¬

my favorite part is that Ninty needs to let people know WIi U isnt the WIi...thats the problem right there.

And yes Wii U does compete with MS and Sony. they dont exist in a vacuum. all three are consoles.

75% of the people who bought Wii aren't Wii fans. So if only half the Wii fans buy Wii U then that's only 12.5 million. Let's hope all the Wii fans buy Wii U otherwise it's f#&ked.

Any evidence to back this up? Or just plucking numbers our of your nintendo hating @$$

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

This gon' be gud.

I think Nintendo wants to make Wii U profitable with its software rather than hardware.

2011 : Anyone buy 3DS before August 12, 2011 will get free game.

2014 : Anyone buy Mario Kart 8 before July 31, 2014 will get free game.

See.....  same promotion but different item

Evidence is their home consoles decline before Wii which stopped at around 25 million with Gamecube.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Can the author of Topic define what is success?
Satoru Iwata promised to the shareholders (in 2002) that the gamecube would sell 50 million units. And the Gamecube ended up selling less than 22 million, which the Nintendo considered a failure. At the current pace, the Wii U will hardly achieve sales of the Gamecube.
Currently the Wii U is a commercial failure.

Frank God for 3DS

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Nintendo needs shooting games.

That's one of the most popular genres if not the most popular.

Metroid HD should be good.

A few other shooting games.

That can help a lot.
