Open-world platformers.

Couldn't agree more.

RTS RTS RTS

It has been 10 years since any major development in this area. The amount of power from PCs now could utterly redefine it.

I would love for porn games to make a comeback. A game like Beat 'Em & Eat 'Em with today's graphics would be incredible!

On consoles I doubt it but PC needs this. Eventually some weirdo will try and compete and make a steam with porn games and it will be an incredible battle.

I would but I gots no money.

Consoles: 3DS, Wii U, and Vita soon. Super Paper Mario fan.

Similarly I'd like to see Gauntlet type game on this generation after having so much fun with Diablo III on consoles.

A feature I would love to have back is more couch co-op, particularly racing games which seems like a core feature that just died.

Gauntlet Legends multiplayer was so much fun. It pains me not to see online multiplayer for this classic!

Need For Speed Most Wanted U has a co-op mode... The co-driver mode allows you to change weather, traffic, daytime/nighttime, your car, color as well as help control direction and speed.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I would love to have an updated version with couch co-op, so much fun having friends over for an evening.

As fun as that sounds...I actually want to race against a friend. Like I could for years in the genre.

Some have pointed out JRPGs and I would love to see my favorite genre go back to glory days of PS1/PS2 era.

I feel like the hack 'n slash genre is in need of a comeback, since 2010 it's been a tough time for fans of the genre with both quality and quantity going down.

In 2010 we had God of War III, GoW: Ghost of Sparta, Castlevania: LoS, Dante's Inferno, Darksiders, Bayonetta - Amazing year.

In 2011 we had nothing worth noting - Shit year.

In 2012 we had a poorly received NG3 and Darksiders 2. - Bad year.

In 2013 we had GoW: Ascension, DmC and Metal Gear: Revengeance - Decent year.

In 2014 we've just had the disappointing Castlevania: LoS2 so far with Bayonetta 2 coming later this year - Bad year so far.

The genre needs to be reinvigorated, I think we need more new IPs in the genre since NG, DMC and Castlevania are practically dead, Bayonetta 2 is probably going to flop and the future of Darksiders is iffy.

God of War 4 is a given, I'd also like to see Heavenly Sword and Dante's Inferno get sequels but I want some new western AAA IPs in this genre too.

I agree with 2D beat 'em ups I used to love Double Dragon and Final Fight!

Another thing I'd like to see come back is a score mechanic. A lot of the replay value in the old games were from improving at the game and achieving a new high score. Trying to get a new high score gave you urge to play it over and over again. A lot of the single player campaigns most people want to run through them and once they're finished they don't have the urge to come back to it again. I think with an arcade/score mechanic would be great in creating more replay value in single player campaigns. Somethin like Housemarque does with their games have a multiplier that builds up and it goes down when you take damage.
