He probably is right, but you can't blame third party's completely. Third party games rarely sell well on Nintendo systems so that's the reason they don't want to make games for the Wii U.

I doubt there is any great conspiracy behind making Nintendo fail, but if there is I personally hope it continues. All the things he thinks makes publishers etc scared of Nintendo being succesful are the same things I hate about Nintendo. I don't want silly gimmicks I just want more powerful PS or Xbox.

I found my soul mate! Except that you're an Xbox fan, but other than that high five mate, I approve of this posts sentiment!

Indubitably.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Is he seriously trying to sell the fact that Nintendo didn't talk with developers about what they planned with the system as "they're afraid of what Nintendo does"? No they aren't afraid, if at all they are annoyed by Nintendo for not talking to them and asking them what they want from a system.

If Nintendo just arrogantly slaps the finished console on third parties tables, gives them this tablet controller that nobody asked for and expect them to implement it in all their games in a meaningful way, which btw even Nintendo has hardly managed, then it's not surprising that some developers aren't too happy about that.

Nintendo should realize that they aren't the kings of gaming world anymore and that they need to work together with third parties, cause third parties really don't have a reaons to just work for them, after all they have enough other platforms, where they stuff sells alot better, they can make their games on.

Good 'ole John Lucas, alive and kicking. This guy would say anything to keep Nintendo free of any responsibility for any of their troubles.

the biggest issue with these conspiracy theoriest is that they believe 3rd parties have an obligation towards nintendo to make their console succesful.

If the Wii U had good sales it would have much better third party support. Maybe less than a Sony or ms console with similar sales, who knows. But would get enough third party games to back up it's first party exclusives.

I agree, it isn't Nintendo fault for not created a console that the developers wanted and instead built what Nintendo wanted.

The fault is entirely on 3rd party devs. Every GDC they get together at a big ol' round table and discuss what the next step is in the "Let's screw Nintendo" plan. When they are not at GDC they actually call each other up on a regular basis. The big 3rd party devs, the big publishers, the smaller publishers, heck even the indie devs are all part of this giant group that is just out to mess with Nintendo.

Nothing is Nintendo's fault. I have learned this over the years. Nintendo should be able to just make what they want, with stuff nobody asked for and 3rd party devs should HAVE to make games for it. They shouldn't instead go to the consoles that were build with those same developers in mind.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

even i who just shown interest in becoming a game developer one day, have been contacted by this massive secret organization. they offered me a deal, if i ever become a dev, journalist, industry insider, game blogger, youtube broadcaster, the next thuway or anything related to the game industry i must downplay everything nintendo does, i must attack their consoles and games in any possible and i must do my best to prevent any good to happen to nintendo. and in return they generously offered me the oppertunity to witness nintendo perish and die, how could i ever refuse such an offer?.

thank you, MSOTWNTDASAPD for giving me this amazing oppertuinity.

People confuse the conspiracy with reality. There is no organized movement by third parties behind the scenes to make Nintendo systems fail. So there is no conspiracy. There is, however, a reality where it is in the best interests of many third parties for Nintendo to not be the lead platform because a) they don't want to compete with the world's biggest software publisher b) they want their titles to be the lead games on platforms (ie COD on XBOX) and c) Nintendo will not build hardware to the specs 3rd parties want and sell it at a loss to make 3rd parties happy.

Good post.

I'd just add to that:

d) demographics ... Sony/MS market almost entirely to the same demographics that the majority of the third parties do, at least with their big gun franchises that being hardcore male gamers aged 12-35. So that makes third parties favor those platforms more for games like Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid. You notice there is no bias against Nintendo from most family/fitness based third party titles ... Nintendo gets all the LEGO games, Disney Infinity, Skylanders, Just Dance, fitness games, Scribblenauts, Sonic, Rayman, etc. Why? Because Nintendo has Mario, DK, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Pokemon, Kirby, etc. and third parties figure the demographics are there for cartoony/family/casual based fare. And Nintendo markets specifically to the family/kid audience.

Beyond that I don't think Iwata-era Nintendo really bothers to engage Western 3rd parties much or at all on a regular basis. They work with Japanese devs on things like Monster Hunter and Yokai Watch and Dragon Quest bundles ... but in the West? Almost nada. I think they are simply out of touch with the Western dev community that is aggressively courted by Sony/MS all the time.
