Salnax said: Between the layoffs and Kinect Sports Rivals flopping, it's bee a bad time for Rare. People might expect them to go back to making N64-style classics now, but honestly, what have they done since 2008's Nuts and Bolts? The last universally acclaimed game from them was 2001's Conker game, three generations ago. Could they be capable of making a great platformer, especially after spending years focusing on Kinect minigames and these layoffs? |
We certainly can't expect that they will suddenly be the Rare of old. Not only is it essentially a different studio, it's also a studio that has been invested in casual-focused motion control games for the last several years. I can understand people being optimistic but unreasonable expectations might lead to disappointment.
Actually, isn't this a serious blow to Kinect? Wasn't Rare Microsoft's main Kinect-dedicated studio? Or are they simply being replaced on that front? The number of Kinect project might just continue to slip.
Also, isn't it something of an assumption that the change in philosophy might NOT be toward traditional games? What if they're switching to social games or some kind of F2P MMO structure?
